Bleeding Still weeks after miscarriage

Hi just wondering if anyone had anything similar as I’m not quite sure what else I can do, so Ive recently miscarried I was 6 weeks and it was my first pregnancy we were trying and I fell quickly I started bleeding on Thursday 4th June and had it confirmed on Monday the 8th that unfortunately the baby had gone I had an internal and she said that the bleeding should stop soon and there was nothing that caused her any concern I went away and the bleeding got very light however 2 days after none being there I then started again lightly then it becomes a lot more heavy on the 15th June I had cramps and back ache so painful I was crying it was awful then it started to become lighter again the next day but hasn’t stopped completely still very red when wiping I rung the doctor and had another external and internal scan 25th I heard from my doctor the next day and he said everything on the scan is fine there is nothing for concern unfortunately this time wasn’t meant to be and I shouldn’t have any problems going ahead trying again in the future if the bleeding don’t stop in a week to ring again I don’t want to have to keep ringing but after being really light for the last few days since the scan it’s become heavier again not ‘gushing’ but very red when wiping. Has any one had similar is this normal? I’m really unsure what to do the doctor recommended if the bleeding don’t stop to start the pill to sort the bleeding and get back in the routine of the periods but I really want to start trying again so don’t want it to have to come to that any advice I really appreciate x

Yes this happened to me . Massive bleeding after confirmed miscarriage ended up in a and e then kept in over night . Several weeks later still bleeding and ended up having the operation anyway.
So sorry to hear you’re going through this . I hope you have lots of support around you and that the hospital can give you answers . X

I’m having almost exactly this at the moment too!

Lost baby on 20th March, bled for about a week or so after, then 2 weeks ago started spotting and haven’t since. Bright red on wiping like you said, I’ve had a scan and there’s no retained products, been on a week worth of antibiotics, but the GP has said now to go back in a month if it hasn’t stopped!

Hi ladies Sorry everyone is going through this . Especially at a time when we have to be attending hospital on our own :( it’s so frustrating when you feel you are constantly having problems and nobody has the answers , I have had a similar experience . We Lost an early pregnancy in feb this year , took a ruptured cyst at the same time so was in a lot of pain , bleeding stopped and was ok , So then we conceived very soon after that loss and made it to my 12 week scan with no bleeding so was happy enough but was then told at my scan baby had stopped growing at 9 weeks . Partner couldn’t even attend with me due to covid . Had to take tablets twice as first round didn’t complete the misscarriage . Here we are nearly 6 weeks later and I took a massive bleed soaking through pads clothes onto towels etc had to attend a and e , was told scan was all clear for retained tissue but pregnancy test was showing positive ! They aren’t sure wither it is a new early pregnancy or not . Having to wait on results to see if hgc levels have went up or down , after such a massive bleed I am sure it is another misscarriage :( . Has anyone been through anything similar ? Xx

Sorry to hear you are going through this too I've spoken to my doctor again today as even though it isn't a lot it's constant he said about giving me antibiotics but said he don't see it being an infection so didn't really want to do that and he and it's normal for people to bleed up to 8 weeks he said he could give me tablets which stop bleeding but he said he don't really want to right now incase something still is lingering that needs to come out and then because of the tablets it stays up there and causes further problems he has said the same to me basically but to ring back up in two weeks and then it would have been a bit longer and he will give me something then just a constant horrible reminder isn't it I want to start trying again and it's making me so down that this could carry on yet for another month x

Rubyloo I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this, one time and I feel I've lost all hope so can't imagine how you are feeling! my friend had a miscarriage 6 months ago and has recently conceived again and had some bleeding but everything is healthy and fine, I think once you've been through something like this I feel like any blood will make you panic but it isn't always a bad sign but just try take it easy I really hope it isn't for you I hope you get some answers soon x

Sorry this happened to you it's just an horrible situation isn't it I haven't bled loads once yet it's been light and constant I've spoken to my doctor again today to try get more answers he said the scans would show up if anything was still there he said it all looks clear, I tried to explain I am having cramps and back ache to the point I'm crying some days I'm in pain I feel like I'm due to bleed a lot stilll it comes and goes but not once been mega heavy to even fill a pad but something just don't seem right he said he speak to me within the next two weeks let's hope it has stopped by then and don't have to have any further treatment but really can't see that happening
Thank you for telling me about you everyone I know who has had one stopped bleeding after 2-3 weeks so nearly 6 weeks on I was beginning to worry x

Lemondropsandgumdrops · 02/07/2020 20:55

I totally get you, it’s so frustrating as all I want to do is try again but obviously not ovulating while all this is going on (I even did OPKs to check just in case!).

The antibiotics seemed to slow mine down for the week I was on them, but then it came back once I was off. They also gave me thrush (always get it when I take antibiotics) which wasn’t fun to deal with on top of everything else.

I’m also getting cramps although they’re quite mild. I had extremely heavy bleeding the first day of the miscarriage - I ended up going to hospital via ambulance as I haemorrhaged after my daughter who was born last year and had excessive blood loss, the bleeding from the miscarriage was unmanageable (I couldn’t leave the bathroom, I was flooding everytime I stood up). I was given something in A+E to slow the bleeding down on arrival then was moved to a surgical ward for the gynae doctor to examine me. He did a speculum examination and was able to manually remove the pregnancy remains and showed me the sac and baby. The bleeding slowed down hugely after this, I bled like a light period for a week or so. Then I stopped for a couple of weeks, then started again and this light spotting has been going on for weeks, always bright red, cramping some times but not always and only mild. I’m so sick of it, I just want to be pregnant again :(

Yaty · 02/07/2020 21:06

Sorry you're going through this. I had a natural miscarriage heavy bleeding for about 1 week and then constant light bleeding for around 4 to 5 weeks. There was no infection etc just took a long time. It was awful wiping and seeing blood everyday for weeks on end, I hope you are being looked after.

Rubyloo11 · 03/07/2020 19:43

Thanks for your message . Had it confirmed today another miscarriage all be it a very early one . I’ve never experienced bleeding like that before apart from medical management . It was so scary . This is our third miscarriage in a row . Planning on giving my body a rest now and hopefully try again some day in the near future . Good luck to everyone with their journeys . I really hope you all get that rainbow baby that is so longer for ! Xxxx

Thank you I am being looked after sorry you also went through this it's horrible isn't it I'm trying to come to terms with it but it's a constant reminder today is week 5 I think and today there hasn't been hardly any so I'm hoping I don't wake up in the morning to any it's nice to know I'm not the only person going through this just want to start trying again and try move forward x

dogloverx · 05/07/2020 00:07

Rubyloo
I'm so so sorry to hear this I can't even imagine how you are feeling it's so hard to hold on to hope I can't imagine having to go through this again I want to start trying but part of me is terrified incase of it recurring it's horrible as everywhere you go it's a reminder always a new baby announcement or an email I signed up to when I found out, it just isn't fair.
I agree give your body a rest your rainbow baby will come you deserve it x

dogloverx · 05/07/2020 00:18

Yeah that's all I wanna do is just to be trying I'm not bleeding heavy at all I took an ovulation test a few mornings ago and there was a line a dark one so said I was, I was only spotting then but come the evening I had to put a pad back on and wasnt going to try due to the bleeding so not sure why that came up that I was it seems so have slowed down the last 2 days so I'm hoping it's near the end now.
& oh no I can imagine that wasn't nice with the bleeding going on and all your emotions too the doctor did say about antibiotics but really didn't want to try that yet as he said can cause further problems if there not needed and he can't see it being an infection. He said unfortunately women can bleed up to 8 weeks so although it is awful not to panic because it isn't unusual and cramps and pains go hand in hand with it he said.
& oh no that's awful I haven't once had a lot of blood but I have had the back pains and cramps so bad too there horrible aren't they
My friend had similar to you she bled extremely heavy when losing the baby everything come out natural the bleeding lasted two weeks but a few weeks later she started bleeding again badly which she thought at first was just her period but went on for a few weeks it went from heavy to constant spotting too. I think she said he stopped after about 4 weeks. From the moment I miscarried it hasn't stopped but just little and constant just really hoping it all goes back to normal I really don't want to have to take anything to stop it I just want nature to run its course with out intervening
Trying to hold on to hope 'what's meant to be will be' but it's so hard as like you I just want to be pregnant :( x

Hi Ladies,
I'm so sorry everyone has to go through this. Just wanted to let you know that I have also been bleeding for about 6 weeks post miscarriage. It does happen even though it sounds like it is often much quicker for a lot of people. I opted for the natural option of waiting but it has been quite a lot to deal with. This is my second miscarriage (around 5 and a half weeks without a heartbeat each time) but I also had a chemical pregnancy in January. I had the D/c the first miscarriage because I ended up in ED with bad pain and bleeding, although now I realise that's just how my body deals with miscarriage I think..
The bleeding for me has been quite heavy on and off with many different days with large blood clots and quite painful at times, (although two and a half of those weeks were small amounts old blood and I thought it had actually all finished). It doesn't seem possible that there is any more to come out or this could still be going from being so early on in the pregnancy! It also took me about 6 or 7 weeks to actually miscarry even though I knew it was coming.
I just had a scan a week ago after another bleed/ clot episode and they said my uterus is all clear and just to let it all come out naturally and that it should be the end soon. I'm still bleeding bright red/dark blood and cramping but hoping it will finish soon. As much as I wanted to avoid the tablets and D/C again it has certainly been along and hard experience and every time I think it's over it ramps up again.
It's also hard because everyone I know that has miscarried seemed to have it all happen much quicker and less painfully than me and I keep wondering if something is wrong.. but the clinic isn't concerned because there aren't any signs of infection at least but I can't wait until this is all over. Anyway just wanted you all to know mine is also going for a long time and you aren't alone!!

Stay strong ladies xxxx

Thank you for sharing that sorry your also going through this, I agree every one I know who has had a miscarriage has stopped within the two weeks. Mine is the same bit to much info but I thought it had all gone took an ovulation test it said I was so I did the deed the next day bleeding again but it was gone completely for 2 days prior to that like I wasn't wearing a pad and then all of a sudden middle of the day the next day it was there again it's starting to really get to me now I didn't want to have to take tablets and let it happen naturally also but just feel like this I can't take much more of it I'm gonna give it one more week which I'm certain won't make a difference then I will ask for the tablets my scans have all come back clear too it's strange isn't it as why 6 weeks later you can still be bleeding I'm glad I posted this as was getting extremely worried but it's good to hear it's not just me, I just want to go back to normality of a regular period and trying again :(

I know this is an old thread, but I wondered if anyone is still around? I’m nearly 4 weeks post-D&C for RPOC, and 9 weeks after medical management for a MMC that should have been 12 weeks but was measuring about 9. I’m STILL bleeding. Had some big gushes with lumps last week that took me to A&E, slower since then but still episodes of bright red thin blood. I’m also experiencing some soreness in my lower tummy. I’m so sick of it all… Would love to hear from others how long your bleeding lasted in the end, any idea why it took so long, and whether you did anything to help it along? Thank you.

Helenbrook · 27/06/2023 21:29

Hi,
yes I had a miscarriage in feb I was 10 weeks and I had a D&C I may as well not have bothered as I passed blood and large piece of tissue that looked like a fetus which broke me after it , I had a period in March a heavier one in April and in May and June recently I hemorraged bright red blood and clots huge ones I ended up in A&E in May they gave me progesterone tablets nothing worked so over a week ago I ended up back in hospital they thought they saw a few mm of refrained products imagine months later and referred me to a gynaecologist who ruled that out and he said it’s a heavy erratic bleed still after a miscarriage I still passed clots this morn but he has given me the Depo provera injection which is a progesterone lasts 12 weeks and thins the lining of the uterus and I’m also on tranexamic acid tablets to stop the clots and they seem to have helped today he said stress Dosent help this either , I want it to be over too I never quite imagined how hard it would be and never again I hope this helps you xx

Oxalis00 · 27/06/2023 21:39

Goodness @Helenbrook what an ordeal. I really hope that your gynae’s plan works out for you and things settle. I just don’t understand why bleeding would be so erratic for so long… I’ve been offered progesterone to stop the bleeding too, but I’m worried it will just hide rather than fix whatever the problem is. But I guess stopping the bleeding is a start! And maybe that will help the womb to reset. It seems like such a mystery. But thank you for posting, it’s good not to feel alone. Good luck to you xx

Lemondropsandgumdrops · 27/06/2023 22:44

I got an email that there had been a reply to this thread as I posted on it 2 years ago.

In reply to the question, I think my bleeding went on for around 10-12 weeks (I can’t remember for certain!). I had 2 internal scans to confirm no retained product, a course of antibiotics, and then was eventually prescribed a course of progesterone however the day I picked that up the bleeding stopped and I was told not to take them if I wasn’t bleeding, so I kept them in case I needed it but it seemed to finally just resolve itself. I still don’t know why I bled so long and I didn’t consciously do anything to stop it so not sure why it did finally resolve.

I had the MMC in May (I think I made a typo in my earlier post when it says March), bled through to August time. Conceived again in the December (around 7 months after MMC) and had my lovely DD in the summer of 2021. I know it’s really horrid right now but sending well wishes Flowers

Oxalis00 · 28/06/2023 06:34

Thank you so much for coming back to update @Lemondropsandgumdrops it’s reassuring to hear your story, and so lovely you went on to have a baby. Congratulations :)

Daisyflower13 · 23/02/2024 19:25

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and has any advice.
I had a miscarriage in November and then fell pregnant again straight away in December. I had a private early pregnancy scan as I’ve been really nervous this time and was told the baby was measuring 6 weeks with no heartbeat, by my dates I should have been 8w+4. My GP booked me in to the EPU where I had another scan today. Baby was measuring 3.4 but again no heartbeat. On the ultrasound she said she could see blood but this could be nothing to worry about. She doesn’t want to act too quickly so has booked me in again in 2 weeks as I’m due to go on holiday next week.

My stomach has been hurting all day and when I wipe there’s pink blood/ discharge. This keeps coming and going. I no longer feel pregnant and just want this to all be over.

I won’t be trying again as this has really taken its toll on me. I have two boys that I’m incredibly blessed to have and I took for granted how easy it was to conceive and have no issues with them.

Has anyone gone through this and how long did it take for you to go on to miscarry? This is so different to last time as I has really strong cramp’s, heavy bleeding and passed lots of clots but was over quite quickly. Whereas now I feel like my body doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Thanks for any advice you could give me.
