Progesterone Cream

Hi,
I'm just wondering if any of you have tried or are currently trying progesterone cream? I've had progesterone suppositories in a previous pregnancy, although that was more of a trial type thing rather than due to actually having low progesterone.
I've been reading up online about natural progesterone cream and how that can help in some cases of recurrent miscarriages. Apparently it can help if there are immune issues that could be causing the miscarriages which I thought was interesting.

Hi, just stumbled across your post and wanted to let you know what worked for me. I used progesterone cream morning and night and then as due date neared, gradually reduced usage. I really feel it did help to maintain my pregnancy in the early stages.

OP, have you tried some B Vitamin complexes, and have you had your prolactin count checked?
I’ve read mixed things about progesterone creams and did a LOT of reading on it before I got pregnant as had a short LP.

Never had my prolactin levels checked I could look into this thanks, had a few thyroid issues (autoimmune) and already taking a B Vitamin.
I've recently been speaking to my GP about my history after having an abnormal smear and needing a cervical poly removed so am hoping to get an appointment to go through everything with her at some point when routine appointments are up and running again.

Just something to make you ladies smile - i'd never heard of this and envisioned it as like a whipped cream tor desserts that'd be nice!!

@TheSweetestHalleluja - I also had an abnormal smear. Have your GP do a full set of bloods (assuming you’ve had your day 21 done already!) and look into prolactin. It affects progesterone levels. Mine was a bit high but a combo of B Vits really helped!

I would be wary of using something like that without getting advice from a doctor first. Chemical pregnancies and miscarriages usually happen because the baby wouldn't have been genetically healthy enough, so do you really want to "trick" your body into keeping a pregnancy going that ultimately will lead to a late stage miscarriage or severely disabled child?

@IlanaWexler I do see what you mean there, but I do think that when its a recurrent thing it seems less likely that every one of those babies would have had genetic problems. My first miscarriage was at 13 weeks and genetic testing showed a healthy baby boy, so I guess I am a little sceptical about that being the issue every time if you see what I mean. Although obviously without having genetic tests done every single time there's no way of knowing.

Yeah you could be right, but like I said, you should get some actual medical advice.

Did you have a full genetic screen done after your miscarriage or do you just mean the harmony test before? Obviously the latter wouldn't pick up the vast majority of genetic disorders.

Will do. Yes it was after miscarriage, I had to have surgical management and they did full testing. Sadly, there was no known reason found for the loss. Unfortunately I seem to fall into the category of 'unexplained reasons' for my losses, which can leave you feeling a little hopeless because even the experts don't seem to know.

I know there are many of us in that same boat though and can only hope that with time its an area of medicine where more answers will be found as it really is so devastating for so many couples to find themselves facing loss after loss for no apparent reason.
