Misoprostol, is this normal?

Missed miscarriage, was booked in for medical management this morning but bled over the weekend and hoped I wouldn't need it but turns out I did. I took the tablets about half 12 and the pain is bad already but seems to be focused on my bowel. TMI sorry but I've had terrible diarrhoea and it's only been 2 hours. Is this a normal side effect? I'm panicking about the upcoming hours!

Yes it’s a normal side effect! My friend had had it before me and warned me - I’m glad she did! I had terrible diarrhea for a couple of hours but then it stopped - hopefully yours will too!

@Poppy10121 oh god I wish someone had told me 😂 thank you, at least I know I'm not dying just yet!

Sorry for your loss. Completely normal side effect to get diarrhoea. Some other common things are also nausea and vomiting. Also getting a high fever. My face went beetroot red, and was hot to touch. My temp was 38.5, but paracetamol helped. These are just common side effects of the drug, not an allergic reaction BTW. They will soon go also. best of luck x

@Elouera thank you x

Did you have to insert the tablets vaginally? You might find you pass a white, paste when you wipe, sometimes mixed with blood. You might even see a half or whole tablet come out, again, don't worry. It will still work, even if some of the tablets come back out. x

@Elouera no it was orally.. I was confused because I read it was either dissolved under the tongue or vaginally but they brought them into me with water and I asked do I swallow them and the nurse looked at me like I had 2 head and said yes lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ x

Oh god I am so very ill. I've now been vomiting and very heavy bleeding. This is some cruel cruel joke on women 😭😭

I found walking around helped to open the cervix and move things along. How many weeks pregnant are you?

Stabal · 11/05/2020 18:46

@Elouera genuinely couldn't get off the toilet for about an hour. Shouted on my fiancé to say I needed to go to hospital but I couldn't get up, feeling weak and dizzy. Then I passed something big and things calmed down. Still bleeding heavy and clots but not as strong 'contraction' pains anymore. I think it was more a panic that set me off. I should be 9 weeks but baby was measuring 7. Thanks for messaging me through this lol 💕

So sorry op. It can be very painful as the cervix opens, but after things have passed that peak point, the pain and bleeding will settle. You will still pass clots and blood, but nothing as bad as earlier. If the vomiting has eased, some paracetamol will help with the cramps, or a hot water bottle. x

Was back this morning convinced everything was gone but apparently there's still some endometrial tissue left that they want to get clear but otherwise I've passed everything 'pregnancy wise'. Was still given another dose of the misoprostal. Don't think I can take another day of it 😭 patiently waiting for it all to kick off again.

Hope its going OK this time @Stabal! Good luck x

Stabal · 13/05/2020 17:11

@Poppy10121 so far much better. Had the contraction pains fairly quickly after taking them which the nurse warned me may happen but they weren't as bad as Monday. I passed a large clot into a pad and everything has been calm since 🤞 x

Glad things are going ok, and sorry you needed an extra dose Flowers

Stabal · 13/05/2020 17:25

@Elouera @Poppy10121 thank you both for keeping me level headed through a scary time! It sucks that we've all had to be in the same boat but it's always nice to know you're not alone ❤️
