Retained product - what does it look like?

Hi,

I am currently in expectant management for retained products. I have 2.2cm of it and my next scan is a week and a half away. I haven't had a period yet since, but today I went to the toilet because I felt something and passed (sorry TMI) a small amount of slimy black stuff and a bit of blood. Then nothing else and haven't bled since? I'm trying to avoid D&C so not sure if I'm just getting my hopes up or not? But could thing have at least been SOME of the product? Does anyone have experience with this x

Yes but a long time ago. I can remember I had an early miscarriage and the final retained tissue came out quite a while after the bleeding had stopped. Say 5-7 days after. I randomly had intense cramping one afternoon, went to the toilet and some dark tissue was there. Not much at all but the cramping went and that was obviously that.

Oh and after that the very faint line that was on my pregnancy test disappeared.

I had some retained tissue and it was grey with blood on one side of it. Like pp my faint positive tests turned negative after I passed it although my first period (3 weeks after passing tissue) did have tiny bits of grey tissue in it.

I had been 11 weeks pregnant and needed medical management. I was unaware I had a retained product, and hadn't been advised to do a pregnancy test! My period started 2 weeks after my MC bleeding stopped, so I used a tampon. When I removed the tampon, out came a POC! Sorry if TMI, it was fleshy like steak, about 20p sized, but thick, browny, pink colour with some blood. I had no pain, fever, odour etc, so had no idea it was there.

What you had OP was likely some of it. Any pains or cramps?

Dark purple/black clots (jelly like) sound like (old) blood clots. When I passed products of conception it looked noticeably different from the rest. More solid white-ish/grey-ish lump of tissue covered with blood. Mine was about 1.5 cm that was left behind after the MVA procedure. Big bleeding and cramping stopped after the tissue came out, it has been 3 weeks since and I have been left with brown-yellow discharge.

Mine sounds like it was huge in comparison to everyone else's. It was about 1cm wide and 7cm long

Thanks for your replies!

The doctor said it could either be a blood clot leftover or tissue he wasn't sure. I'm due back on Thursday for another scan, if it's still there going to consider a D&C.

I'm still passing very very dark red slimy stuff, like a clot but not formed like a clot, just stringy if that makes sense. And I'm bleeding like a light period (not sure if it is my period though as doctor told me my first period would be very heavy) having light cramps every now and again.

Slimy black clots there every time I bleed. Do you girls think this could be what he saw on the scan coming away? I just want this to be over :( also do any of you have experience with how long to leave it? I know it can cause infection so I've been told what to look out for, my friend is a nurse and said if it was her she would just leave it, be aware of the signs of infection and trust my body to pass it rather than get the surgery.

Update! I just went to the toilet and felt something that I had to give a little push and it was a grey/white ball kind of thing, almost looked like a brain texture (sorry for the TMI) and it looked to be about the size the retained product was in scan, could this be it? Also worth mentioning I've had the most intense cramping in my stomach and back ache all day x

Hi everyone

I have been told I have retained product and my hog level is 30 I have 4.5 weeks since medical abortion and feeling very crampy and nauseous! Feel so fed up they have given me antibiotics and said it will pass on it’s own. I have not come on yet but today when I have wiped it’s like a bitty greyish white tiny fleshy stuff like pate texture. Is this normal? And should I be feeling this way the hospital were so unhelpful. I’m scared 😧

Not sure if I'm allowed to put a picture on of what my retainer tissue looked like so I'll put a Trigger warning** on

I miscarried at 9 weeks last year. Scan showed Baby had dropped onto my cervix and at that point I was only potentially miscarrying. The scan a few days later confirmed the sac had collapsed and I was definitely miscarrying. 2 days after I had lots of heavy bleeding and passed a lot of hand sized clots. Bleeding although still heavy tapered off similar to my normal period which in general is heavy anyway. Still had some cramping but no where near as bad as it had been. Took a pregnancy test 3 weeks later and it showed a faint positive. EPAU told me to retest again the following week which I did and it was still showing positive. Got given 3 options carry on as I was, misoprostol or D&C decided on misoprostol in the end because by now I was 5 weeks into my miscarriage. Took them on the Thursday. No cramping no heavy bleeding so I didn't think they'd worked. On the Saturday whilst my OH was over for work I felt something coming out of me. Went to the toilet and when I wiped what was left inside was there on the tissue. This is what mine looked like
