Pregnancy after MMC & ERPC

Hi Everyone,

I found out on Thursday that I had a MMC at 9 weeks (but baby's heartbeat had stopped at 8 weeks).

I had an ERPC yesterday, but have so far experienced no bleeding apart from a bit of spotting - is this normal?

Also, how long did anybody in the same situation wait before TTC again?

We also lost a baby to meningitis in November at a week old, so I'm not sure if I've just miscarried because my body wasn't ready after that. But we're desperate to give our 3 year old the sibling that she wants and to complete our family.

Any advise or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I’m so so sorry for both your losses Flowers I suffered a MMC in November which was discovered at our 12 week scan mid December. I had an MVA which is a similar procedure and did bleed post opp but it may take a couple of days, I would call the EPU if you are concerned.

Although we were told we could try again after my first period post op, we have chosen to wait 3 cycles before TTC again. Partly because of the current situation but also like you I can’t help but feel my body wasn’t ready for another baby. We have a 16 month old and I fell pregnant when he was 10 months old and I had just stopped breastfeeding. At the time I had only had 1 AF since his birth and my gut feeling it was just too much although I will never know that for sure. I am due my AF in a couple of days and then we will start trying.

You must do what feels right for you and listen to your heart. When the time is right, I’m sure it will happen for you and your little one will have a sibling. Sending a big hug to you xxx

Hi ke, so sorry to hear about what you've gone through. I also was diagnosed with a MMC and had an ERPC yesterday too. I know everyone's experience is different, but I haven't had much bleeding either. There was quite a bit when I came round from surgery and the immediate hours after, but my first urination at home, and this morning, there hasn't been too much at all. I'm happy about this as it suggests most of everything was 'gotten'.

You should have been given a leaflet which tells you what is normal and who to contact if you have any concerns. I know there are posts on here from other ladies who also say they had little bleeding at first, and then a bit of a 'gush' after a few days, so I think there are multiple ways to experience this that are within the realms of OK.

As for when to start to TTC again, medical professionals will advise that you wait one cycle, but this isn't for any particular health reason - it's just to assist with dating the pregnancy if you were successful. It's a personal decision that only you can make. Personally, I think when I've stopped bleeding and feel fully better/up to it we will NTNP until I get my period, and then get back into the swing of things after that.

Wishing you all the best; take care.
