Could this be a miscarriage?

I'm on the pill and have an appointment to talk about being sterilised.
I've not had a period in months but for a few days I've had cramps in my lower abdomen but without any bleeding, and also what I can only describe as Labour contractions in my lower back. Yesterday I started bleeding which is odd because the pill has stopped my periods, pain carried on but the bleeding was quite light. This morning I've woken up and gone for a wee and the pad is full and had quite a big clot on it, the pains have stopped and I'm still bleeding. Could this be a miscarriage? Should I buy a pregnancy test will it show anything?

Sorry you are going through this... if you were to take a HPT now then it will probably still show elevated HCG levels, if you are concerned with the level of bleeding, I would contact your GP or local early pregnancy unit to get some support. X

@SmileyT thank you, the bleeding has stopped,it's been very light all day. I'll get a test and on my way home from work.
