Miscarriage pain

Looking for some advice, currently having a miscarriage and the pains are unbareable, started earlier today just as light spotting the bleeding has got much heavier and the pain is keeping me awake at night, is this normal?

Rasper, it is normal. You are having contractions and because your baby is so tiny, they are worse than giving birth to a full term. Bleeding quite a lot is normal too. I remember having one at three months and it was awful.

I should be around 5/6 weeks which is why I would think the pains wouldn’t be as bad, yea have my partner with me

If you start feeling faint have him call 111. Nothing anyone can do about the pain unfortunately, only people who’ve been through it can understand 😥

Also currently having one and the pain had me doubled over earlier rocking. I took paracetamol and was promptly sick so I rang 111 for advice who wanted to send an ambulance because of how much pain I was in (they didn't advise intake more paracetamol) the ambulance was supposed to arrive within two hours but I'm guessing because of everything g else going in they are over stretched. I ended up cancelling the ambulance because nearly four hours later I could take more pain relief anyway. I have passed some tissue I know there is more to come but from what I remember from my first miscarriage a few years ago once that happens the pain does get a lot easier. It's a horrible thing to go through I hope for both of us it's over quickly. Xxx

Iv had two last year. I found hot baths really helped through the worst of contractions.
& even the strongest of pills didn't touch the pain.

Hot water bottles really helped me! And I don’t know how to take to codine but Solpadine Max was quite good at relieving the pains I had post MC.

Just regarding baths - I had surgical management of mine and I wasn’t allowed to be submerged in water for 2 weeks/until my cervix has closed but I don’t know if that’s because of the surgery and the associated infection risks or is something that’s applicable to all MCs!

How are you today OP? My pain has gone now just feel sore/bruised. I did pass some tissue last night but it didn't seem like much so I have a scan on Thursday to double check. I'm thinking of you xxx

I had two and the one at 6/7 weeks was more painful than a later one- can you get some stronger painkillers? I got some naproxen and that helped. Maybe co codamol which I think can be bought over the counter as GPs are going to be hard to get hold of.

Hi all, thanks for asking I had some tissue pass about an hour and a half after this post and the pain is almost all gone - still bleeding and getting some pain feeling little dizzy aswell however that’s probably because I haven’t slept in over 24 hours because of this

Make sure you rest and take as much time off as you can, it's such a hard time and you need to really focus on self care. I took extra iron and a vitamin b complex after my first as i was so wiped out and run down, it was a big help. Sending a big hug xx

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss.
I also miscarried 5 days ago (I was around 6 weeks pregnant)
On the night when the bleeding started within around 3 or 4 hours I was bleeding quite heavily with rather large clotting. The pain were like contractions and unbearable for a few hours. After that passed I managed to sleep and the pain and bleeding was a lot milder.
Now every day since, I’ve experienced around an hour each day of heavy cramping (not as bad as the first night) and still some red bleeding.
I have been reading that this could last upto 2 weeks.
I’m also at a disadvantage because I live abroad in Dubai and when I went to the hospital on the first night the doctor was so unsympathetic and in all honesty seemed like she didn’t really care. I haven’t been back since although I feel like I should ask for an ultrasound to see if my uterus has emptied. Is this something that needs to be done after miscarrying?

Hi there, I’m not sure about the ultrasound to see if your uterus had emptied but I was called for another scan to see if this was a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy just waiting on results, how does everyone cope with a loss of a baby I seem to be finding it very hard.

Hi op how are you? Have you had the results of your scan yet? I went for mine and unfortunately I have some retained tissue. I had the pessaries yesterday to induce the rest of the miscarriage as especially now the kids are off school I can't bare waiting for two weeks thinking will it be today or not. Anyway they as of yet haven't worked so I have to go back tomorrow to try again and if they fail again it will be D&C which I don't really like the thought of either especially at the minute but at least the waiting will be over and I can get back to a new normal. I really hope you are doing ok and have lots of support around you. X

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and your painful situation!

This is obviously a very personal decision but I had surgical management/D&C last year following a miscarriage and it was an oddly peaceful experience!

I went it, they put me under, I woke up a few hours later, was given some nice painkillers and I didn't have to deal with having to pass anything/seeing anything!

Thank you for your kind words and I'm so sorry that you too have experienced pregnancy loss. I would have taken the surgery option first but now I have 3DC at home as schools are shut and had hoped in the 4-6 hours I was quoted to not sound harsh it would be over and done with I have had some more pessaries this morning and have to give these 48 hours now (although the nurse seemed hopeful they would work this time) we shall have to see. If not the very earliest they would get me in would be Tuesday but in this climate....who knows?

@Sleepytimebaby ahh I totally understand why the surgery wouldn't be ideal! It took me about a week to comfortably get around and I was pretty much just resting/snoozing on the sofa for two days whilst my husband looked after me - no children !

I hope the pessaries work for you! I think that's awfully brave of you! I did want to see anything and like you "just wanted it over with"

Well as of yet these don't seem to be doing anything either hopefully something will start to happen within the next day or so. I'm so tired now I'm not being a good mother or wife while my mind is constantly thinking is this it will it happen soon. I just need peace now xx
