Unconventional miscarriage advice

Hi, I'm new on here but having searched the internet I cant find any advice that matches my experience.
On 9th March I was 6 weeks pregnant (since date of last period) and in the evening I started to experience light bleeding and achy (as opposed to sharp pain) cramps along my lower abdomen.
I had already booked an early 6 week private scan as I was feeling anxious due to having an underactive thyroid and the associated risks so I attended the scan the next day (still light bleeding) and the sonographer couldnt find the sac anywhere and suspected a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy so sent me to hospital for more tests.
The NHS hospital also did a scan (both internal) and also couldn't find anything including an ectopic pregnancy. Due to the bleeding and lack of sac, I was told that I had likely miscarried but they did a blood test to check the hormone levels.
I got the results the next day which showed lower than expected Hcg levels (201), progesterone was 19.7. The nurse said that again it was likely I had miscarried but to do a pregnancy test in a week and if still positive then to have the blood test again (due to do this in a couple of days).
The bleeding lasted 5 days and it was very light everyday, the cramping only last about 36hrs, it all seemed like a normal period and nothing like what I have read of miscarriages; extreme pain, large clots, heavy bleeding.
So whilst I am trying not to hold out any hope as it would be highly unlikely that despite everything that has happened, I am still pregnant. I don't understand if this bleeding was my miscarriage or a period and if it is my period, will I go on to experience the typical symptoms later.
It is hard enough having a miscarriage but when the physical part of it makes no sense, it is hard to get closure so I'm hoping that I may get answers here.
Thank you!

Hi,

Sorry to hear your situation, if your hormone Levels were only 201 - you won’t see any sign of a pregnancy test until the hormones are over 500. Did you have a positive test? Maybe you had a chemical pregnancy or an early pregnancy.
Do you know what your endometrial thickness was from the ultrasound scan?

Hi @ShinyBadger

Thank you for your response, I had two positive tests after my period was due.
I looked into chemical pregnancies and thought it may relate to my situation however it sounds like the bleeding is much earlier than I experienced.
I didn't ask about my endometrial thickness and the Dr didn't mention it.
I just did another pregnancy test and it is still positive at 7 weeks.
Hoping to get another blood test soon to get some answers.

Sorry I haven’t replied I’ve not been on here.
Did you get your bloods back yet?
How are you doing?

Hi I have had a similar situation where my second scan showed the gestational sac had broken down but some material still remains. I have been bleeding on and off recently and wondering if there will be more blood?

@ShinyBadger Hi, don't worry.
Yes, hcg is now 42 so it was definitely a miscarriage, have to go back next week for another blood test though.
The nurse also confirmed that the bleeding last week was the miscarriage, not a period.
It's good to get closure on it and I think (for me) it is easier to deal with as it happened so early.
My husband is being great and we are just trying to be positive. I was concerned that I might not ever get pregnant so at least we know now that it is possible.
The hospital (UCLH) have been brilliant, very comprehensive.

@Driftwood2000 sorry to hear that. I had light bleeding for 5 days and now it has stopped although I'm starting feel pains in my right ovary which I'm not sure is normal.
Guess everyones experience is different and maybe there is no 'normal'.
Hope you feel better soon
