Stronger pregnancy test after Miscarriage - how?!

Hi there,
Will try and keep this short! Found out we were pregnant at just under 5 weeks - happy as it took less time than before!
At 6 weeks I had a v small bleed - happened with DD so wasn't too worried, however then took a pregnancy test out of curiosity the next day - not as strong a line as I'd have expected for 6 weeks. Left it a few days and went to the GP as I was convinced it was a threatened miscarriage - he took a test which was positive but by his tone of voice the strength of it was a little concerning...was told to wait and see. I also took a CB test which said 1-2 weeks and accepted that it probably wasn't going to be a happy result.
At 7 weeks exactly I started to bleed and cramp more - this time very heavy and I knew I was having a MC - I also passed what looked like (after googling) a gestational sac.
A rubbish week has gone by of wanting to know for sure when everything would return back to normal. I took a test today (2 weeks after initial bleed, 1 after MC) and my pregnancy test is the strongest I've seen throughout my pregnancy - how could this be, after seeing such feint tests consecutively throughout last week? Any answers appreciated - I start to accept what's happened and then have so many doubts and worries that something isn't right.
TIA

Sorry for your trouble - I think you need to contact EPU for a scan to see what is going on, I would be concerned you had retained tissue. You need some closure to be certain if the pregnancy has ended.

I'm going to call tomorrow I think. I'm fairly sure I have retained tissue and would rather it was looked at sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed - I'll keep you posted 🤞

So, frustratingly, GP started going through with the referral only to be told by EPU that they won't see me until 3 weeks after I passed the 'tissue'. I can't wait another 2 weeks ..I've booked in for a private scan just to try and get any answers I can.

Hi OP,

I had a very similar experience last year. I had a bleed at six weeks and my pregnancy tests faded to almost negative within the week, large bleed, scanned at EPU and confirmed MC.
I then started tracking my cycle and the OPKs were all coming back positive, after four consecutive days I did another pregnancy test which was a strong positive. I persuaded my GP to take bloods over a few days to track my HCG levels and it confirmed they were rising. He tried to convince me it was a new pregnancy and too early to scan, but I knew in my heart something was wrong. After pushing EPU for another scan, it was confirmed retained products. Too small for surgery but large enough to fuck with my HCG levels. It was another three weeks to pass the tissue and another week after that to finally get a negative test.
I hope the outcome is more positive for you. X
