Mmc confirmed by private scan

Hey all first time posting on here so hi everyone.
I'm just looking for some advise. I had booked for a private scan in the 1.2.20 meseaurung in at 5 weeks 6 days which was quite worrying as I thought I was atleast 7 weeks based on pregnancy tests and symptoms. Went back 17 days later 18.2.20 and have confirmed that baby is not growing as now only estimated at 6 weeks 1 day and have suggested I have had a mmc. I was told to speak to the doctor and see my next step. So today I booked a doctors appointment after having some time to try and feel a little bit better about it and doctors have told me theres nothing they can do I need to just wait as I have not yet had any symptoms of miscarriage no bleeding or no pain. I'm a little worried this is bad advice . I informed the doctors this is my second mmc within a year. Last time I was bleeding so they suggested I let is happen naturally which was awful and I ended up in and out of hospital. In the end had to have surgery to remove the remaining bits inside me as they were worried after 3 weeks it was not all gone. I'm a little worried now as I'm thinking little bean died around 3 weeks ago and I've just been told to wait... could anyone offer me any advice or ensure me that actually waiting is good advice. Just seems heart breaking knowing this had happened and now I just had to act like everything is okay when its not!!!!

So sorry you're going through this OP!

My MMC was diagnosed at the Early Pregnancy Unit so I'm not sure if their protocols are different, but I was told I had to wait two weeks, have another scan to confirm, then discuss the options of medical management or surgery. Mine passed naturally (if you can call it that) a few days later, and they advised me to go for the second scan anyway to check nothing was remaining that could cause infection.

The whole thing was horrific, but the Unit were so lovely. If your local hospital has one, its definitely worth getting in touch, and they'll keep your GP up to date also.

I’m sorry you are going through this Sad I had a mmc in jan, was due to go for the 12 week scan where we were told that the baby was only measuring at 8+2 and had no heartbeat. I was due to go to the hospital on the Monday to discuss options but miscarried naturally the night before. I still went to my appointment where they did a scan and said there was a 2cm bit of tissue left. I decided to wait and see if my body did the rest which it did 2 days later. All in all it took just over 4 weeks for my body to realise and start the process. It’s so heartbreaking but it seems the norm for the hospital to advise waiting to see if things progress naturally. If they don’t then they will offer you alternative options or if you can’t bear waiting then contact them and speak to them about your options

My private scan (twice) found i had had a mmc and referred me to the local early pregnancy unit. They scanned and confirmed and offered me the options of waiting, medical management or vacuum and local anaesthetic. I’d suggest you speak to your gp or midwife and ask for a referral to EPU. And/Or ring the EPU for advice. My local one only accepts gp or midwife referrals but given you’ve had a private scan they really should see you! I believe some accept drop ins though. So sorry you’re going through this and the gp has been so little help Flowers. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and having to go through the stress of the procedure, hospitals and decisions makes it so tough let alone when you’re getting no support from your gp.

I went for medical management both times and although I know some people don’t have a good experience, I found it went ok both times. I felt better being at home and took lots of painkillers (ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine together every 4 hrs) and just went to the loo often, most of the bleeding happened into the loo along with some clots/lumps. DP looked after me and made me food and drinks and we watched loads of netflix. It wasn’t the best day of my life (understatement!) but it wasn’t horrifically harrowing looking back.
