TTC after an ectopic pregnancy.

Hiya, this is only my second thread so please bare with me.
Sadly I had an ectopic pregnancy back in October, the location of the baby was unknown, I was treated with methotrexate so didnt require surgery. It's now January and me and my partner feel ready to ttc again, although my ectopic was terrifying. I have a happy, healthy 4 year old and my ectopic was my second pregnancy. I cannot say what caused it but I was diagnosed with chlaymida back in 2017 due to a cheating ex boyfriend so I'm guessing that may of had something to do with it. I also have PCOS which doesn't help. It's not 19 days past the 1st day of my last period and we have been using Pre-Seed lubricant to try and help us conceive again as that's what we used with my ectopic. The reason for my post is that I want to know if anybody has had any success stories after having an ectopic and being treated with methotrexate or had chlamydia in the past but achieved pregnancy and gone on to have a baby? I'm absolutely terrified of having another ectopic as I know my chances have increased and not knowing the health of my tubes scare me Sad So please ladies, any success stories out there would really help. Thank you x

I got pregnant twice after ectopic (tube removal rather than methotrexate). One pregnancy didn't have a happy outcome but this was unrelated to the ectopic. Second post ectopic pregnancy produced my one year old. Fell pregnant relatively quickly both times as well despite only having one tube. Good luck, when you do conceive make sure you contact your local epu to get a scan to check it's in the right place.

Thank you for your replies. Hoping and praying to fall pregnant this month, but I know how much I'll worry when I get the BFP. Also im sorry to hear that Upso and LittleBelina. Nothing worse than losing a baby you so desperately wanted, I know too well how that feels now. Does anybody know at how many weeks I can have an earliest scan and if I will be monitored more because of my ectopic?

I think it was about 5-6 weeks but both times I had to go back as they couldn't see a heartbeat at first. They might do a blood test first to check your HCG levels. This varied between the two subsequent pregnancies for me. First time they did two blood tests 48hours apart to check HCG was rising as it should, then they did the scan. Second time they scanned, didn't see what they needed to so did a blood test and then another scan a week later. This was with the same epu. No additional scans (due to ectopic) once they knew it was viable pregnancy. They both would have been treated as normal pregnancies (although "high risk" due to a c section with my son before the ectopic) but problems with my first post ectopic pregnancy (my baby had a heart condition) resulted in loads of scans for both. To be honest I could have done without the extra scans as added stress even with my most recent pregnancy where everything was fine.

Contact your epu as soon as you get a positive test and they'll advise. Some let you self refer if you have had an ectopic in the past.

Thank you. I'm currently now laying in bed just worrying and over thinking about the whole ectopic thing. Some days I'm so excited to try again and to have all hope in the world it will work out next time but then I have days where I'm so so fearful of having another ectopic that it puts me off the whole idea of ttc again. I have really bad anxiety issues (mainly health anxiety) so it's even worse Sad

Have you had any counselling about your anxiety or is there someone you can talk it through with it in real life. Sorry if that sounds twee /stating the obvious (or you've already tried it) but sometimes just talking through with someone can help, even if it's a one off. Remember although the odds of another ectopic have increased they are still in your favour (90% chance of it not being ectopic and even if you were unlucky again they are more likely to catch it earlier).

I do understand your anxiety as we thought long and hard about trying again. However we figured our reasons for having another baby hadn't gone away and although pregnancy was stressful it was worth it in the end. If you have time, perhaps take a break from TTC if it gets too much (not really an option for us due to my age).

I had an ectopic in October and had my left tube removed. I had a miscarriage at 11 in May last year too. We’ve started ttc this month but just got my period on Saturday. My periods aren’t the same since the ectopic and I’m so scared I’ll never fall pregnant naturally again. I have PCOS too, my cycles are normal 60-70 days but who knows now! Feel so low every time I get my period 😢

DisneyMummySince2010 · 15/01/2020 19:18

@FingersCrossed2020 any update? Would love a positive PCOS post ectopic pregnancy xx

FingersCrossed2020 · 21/02/2020 20:04

@DisneyMummySince2010 Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on here for a little while. I have actually just found out 2 days ago that I am pregnant again! So very happy but also terrified of another ectopic. I honestly was thinking the same as you, that I'd never fall pregnant naturally again because I have PCOS, past sti infection, ectopic pregnancy etc.. but it does and will happen! Have faith, it just takes a bit of time. Me and my OH were trying in January and was concentrating on doing everything right and timing it but unfortunately my period came... but this month, we didnt think about it at all, just had sex whenever we wanted to then I done a test and boom! Pregnant. Theres always hope x

That's lovely, fingers crossed.
Just make sure you get an early scan to make sure this one is in the right place.
I had two ectopics and then my lovely DD so there is definitely hope.

FingersCrossed2020 · 21/02/2020 20:38

@Polly99 thank you. I am booked in for an early scan on the 12th March. By then I will be around 7 weeks. Every twinge or pinch I get in my tummy, I panic :( i think I'm bound to worry though because of my history.. Wow really? It's always lovely to hear success stories.

Hi I’m new to this site but just seen this thread. I had an eptopic pregnancy in March 6th 2019...March 4th this year I’ve got a beautiful baby girl (I had a tube removed) if you haven’t already conceived please don’t worry 😉

MrsB2019x · 26/07/2020 20:57

@FingersCrossed2020 How are you doing? I had an ectopic treated with methotrexate in April this year and your new BFP gives me hope Flowers

Sian20 · 26/07/2020 22:21
