Growth at scan but no heartbeat???

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is long, I want to give as much info as I can incase anyone has been through anything similar and can share their experiences....
I stopped taking the pill at the start of September this year, I had one 36 day cycle, one 29 day cycle with my lmp on 28th October, and then I had my first faint bfp on 25th November.
So there’s no knowing if my cycles had regulated etc, I’ve no idea when I ovulated or implanted etc. All I have to go on is when I got my bfp.
Anyway, 2 weeks ago on 18th December I had some pink when I wiped. I panicked and called my gp who referred me to the local EPU who saw me the next day (19th) fit a scan.
Going by my lmp I would have been around 7 weeks. But they dated me earlier than that, could see sac, yolk sac and fetal pole but no heartbeat.
Was booked to go back in 12 days time (31st December...today).
Anyway, I carried on having blood when I wiped, and only when I wiped, them over that weekend (21st/22nd) I lost some very small clots when wiping and had some cramping. So I spoke to EPU again who were lovely and told me to come in again on the Monday (23rd).
I went back and was scanned again. Things looked much the same as before, no heartbeat etc. But not conclusive enough to write it off. Told to go home and come back for the scan that they’d booked for 31st.
Since then I had continued to have blood only when I wipe, but no cramping.
I had fully come to terms and accepted that the pregnancy wasn’t progressing anymore and that my body was just taking its time recognising it was gone so have just been waiting to miscarry.
I fully expected today’s scan to be a formality where it would be confirmed the pregnancy looked the same, or had shrunk, or gone completely, if there was anything still left I was going to request medical management.
Anyway, so scan today showed the embryo has actually had ‘significant growth’ although still no heartbeat. But everything ride looks as it should.
After than scan I went in to speak with the nurse who talked through the scan results. She was very positive and asked about my dates etc again. She seemed to think that if I implanted only a short time before my bfp then things could well be normal and that my cycles were just skewed. She said they wouldn’t have expected so much growth and would have expected none.
She was so apologetic for keeping me in limbo but has booked me in for another 10 days time for another scan.
I’m still not convinced it will be good news as for it be this slow in progressing just seems very abnormal. So I’m not looking for positive stories as such as I’m very much being realistic, I just wondered if anyone had been through anything at all similar?
I just want to not be in limbo, to deal with it one way or another.
I even cancelled my midwife appointment the other day as I was totally convinced of a miscarriage.

Yes, I’ve had similar. Did they check your bloods? My scans showed no heartbeat but where they expected my blood levels to drop they continued to increase and a scan at 7 weeks showed a heart beat and also an empty sac. It was decided that it had been a twin pregnancy and one had been lost. Unfortunately I went on to mc the second twin at 12.5 weeks.

I think you are right not to build your hopes up and to expect the worst. All you can do is wait and see what happens. I went on to have another mc 6 months later and then 18 frustrating months of no bfp before I decided to call it a day, accepted a new job and got a bfp the same month! He’s thirteen now and driving me mad.

Good luck and fingers crossed for you whenever the time is right.

Hi

Im really sorry you are going through this, but i really dont think its good news.

I had IVF and i got a BFP on the 18th November. This made me 4w3d.
Anyway, with that, i worked out that i would be 12 weeks by 10th Jan. Which means, going by when you got your BFP, you cant be much behind what i was, maybe 1.5 weeks, meaning you are about, at least 9 weeks.
For you not to have a heartbeat at this stage means its not a vianle pregnancy and as much as i hate to be blunt, but i think you already know, dont you...

I subsequently miscarried this pregnancy making it my 4th, so i know and understand what you are going through, especially being in limbo

Be kind to yourself. Xx
