What is normal after Miscarriage surgery?

Hi

I had surgery 8 days ago after failing to fully miscarry naturally.

I had cramps the day after then was fine. Bleeding stopped two days ago. However for past 24 hours I have been having quite bad period like cramps on and off.
Is it possible to get your period so soon after surgery? Or could it be an infection? I don’t have any other symptoms of an infection? I was given a week of antibiotics straight after that I finished yesterday.

Just debating whether I need to contact 111 but don’t want to waste their time if it turned out to be a period 😐

I had surgery 2 weeks ago, I only bled for a couple of days after. For the last couple of days I've been feeling as though my period is about to start and today I've got horrible cramps, it could just be all the stresses, strains and over excess of Christmas time though.

I don't think there is a normal after the surgery because we're all different with different cycles. But if you are having any severe pain or feeling feverish then please get checked over.

Hi, I think the previous poster is right and there is no normal. I didn't experience any cramps after the surgery but did bleed on and off for the best part of 3 weeks which panicked me as I'd read of so many people hardly experiencing any bleeding. Earlier this week I did experience some mild cramps and I read that it could be everything still getting back to 'normal' and your uterus shrinking back down, which would make sense as I thought it was too early for af. If they are severe cramps though I would maybe ring epu for advice and reassurance. I think if you otherwise feel well it's probably unlikely an infection.

Thanks guys. Today they don’t seem nearly as bad so am putting it down to healing/adjusting or over doing it with Christmas. X

@GoldenBauble it's funny you saying about the uterus shrinking down, my stomach definitely seems flatter today, maybe a coincidence but strange after the amount I've eaten recently!

Hope you are both coping well with your losses and good luck for any future pregnancies Thanks

I had D&C six weeks ago and pretty much remember that first two weeks I had on off bleeding and pain. But if cramps are getting much stronger I would phone either 111 or hospital unit where you had your surgery. Good luck!!
