Natural miscarriage- is it complete?

Hi! I got to know on my 12 week scan that baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. And after 1.5 weeks I miscarried naturally last night. I felt some period pains and then they turned to contractions that were 2 mins apart and after about 40 mins or so I felt a gush down there and ran to the bathroom to see just blood on my pad that too not soaking wet. After that my contractions stopped and I've just been having period cramps or heaviness you could say. Also after the gush I experienced I passed quite a huge clot as it was painful passing that. I was sitting to pee so couldn't see it.
The bleeding was quite heavy after the contractions for maybe 3 4 hours now that has slowed down too though it's still quite a bit.
I Was scheduled for surgery on Monday, don't know if I still need it now. What does your experience say? Also i called my EPU they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays I believe. Have to call early Monday morning before surgery.

It sounds like a normal pattern for a miscarriage to me (been there twice Sad).

If you are scheduled for surgery on Monday I'd attend and describe what has happened. They'll probably scan you and decide surgery not necessary any more. A pregnancy test in 2 weeks should confirm complete miscarriage as if there's retained tissue then your hormones stay detectable on a test.

If you're concerned about the level of bleeding at any time before you go on Monday please please seek proper medical advice. In the meantime, take care of yourself Thanks

Hi Bee can I ask how it went today? I hope you didn't have to have surgery. I am in a similar position to you xx

@raspberryjamlove I called epu and they were open on Sunday then scanned me and said there is enough retained tissue that I can go for surgery. Then later that night I passed a huge clot 4-5 inch and had severe period cramps. So I called Monday morning epu again and told them they asked me to come.
The consultant discussed with me and said that he personally feels that the surgery isn't much beneficial for me as my body is doing it naturally .. I asked for a scan and he said that we will always find sth ther that's how body is. So Ive chosen to wait for 2 weeks now and then if bleeding stops and my hpt comes negative then it means that it's all cleared.

So hoping for the best. I'm happy I didn't need to go for the surgery and hope that it clears so i don't need one at all.. although it is a safe procedure with minimal risks.

Hi Bee thanks for sharing and glad to hear you didn't need surgery in the end - fingers crossed for a negative test in a few weeks. I had a similar experience, this weekend I had contractions for 4 hours, passed 2 clots (didn't look too much) and have had mild period pains and like a period since. Hoping I won't need any further treatment. It's so sad isn't it? Feel like my heart aches :( x

Bee1710 · 18/12/2019 16:59

@raspberryjamlove hope it's over for you. Did you bleed heavily afterwards? I filled 2 3 pads in a hour easily.
Yes honestly my heart aches. My sil is maybe pregnant as she is late and even though I'm very happy for her it just hurts a little as i was before. Well hoping we conceive soon a healthy baby xx

@Bee1710 'good news' (well best news from a crappy situation) my side, after a scan it confirmed I had a complete miscarriage so nothing further needed. Sad but relieved xx

Bee1710 · 19/12/2019 21:16

@raspberryjamlove well that's good news! I know from a sad situation but well atleast you're cleared. I still don't know about myself. Are you still bleeding?
