Handprints and footprints

Can I ask anyone who has suffered a late miscarriage what age the baby was if they have had handprints and footprints done as a memory keepsake?
I was told our girl was too small at 17 weeks. I just wanted to be sure

My boy was 16 and he was also too small. They said they tried but the prints were not identifiable as hand and foot prints. Sorry for your loss, it’s a horribly hard thing to go through. Did you get a SANDS memory box or any other keepsakes?

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes we had a memory box but only a week after the birth so much of it is not applicable now.
I just wish I'd had some prints.

It’s hard. I didn’t take much from the box but I did wear the little butterfly charm on my bracelet for about six months. Last year if got a little Christmas bauble to remember him and his sister who I lost at 15 weeks. That was enough for me. Once you have had time to grieve you will find your way to remember her, no matter what that is. I really wanted footprints too but I have my scan photos which I looked at occasionally

So sorry for your loss. I had a late miscarriage 7 weeks ago - baby was 21 weeks + 2 days, and we were able to get handprints and footprints done.
Hope you're getting the support you need.

@avocadoincident I am so sorry for your loss. As a midwife who has worked with lots of families experiencing loss of their baby I have sometimes found it incredibly difficult to take handprints particularly. When I have tried and not been able to get proper prints I have generally offered to show the parent(s) what I did get so that they know that i have tried for them.
Are you getting support from a bereavement specialist midwife or a support group such as SANDS?

@Nanmumandmidwife I think that's a good option. No prints were attempted but I'd like to have at least tried. I('m not moaning about the nurses btw, she probably knew they would be unsuccessful)

My boy was 17 weeks. We did do prints but you can't really make much out. It's more cos we had them for dd who was lost much further on so I was v v keen to have them for him too even if not clear.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I lost my baby boy last week at 18 weeks. The midwife was able to take handprints and footprints, although I haven’t yet found the courage to look at them.

For what it’s worth he measured large for his age at our previous scans so this may have been why it was possible.

Thank you for all your replies and sorry to hear of your losses. We must all me so strong to get up each morning and carry on.
