Hug levels after miscarriage

Hey guys,

So I had a missed miscarriage, foetus was aged 5 weeks but I found out at closer to 8-9 weeks that it was not viable. For various reasons I decided to do expectant management and started bleeding naturally about 2 weeks later. 2 weeks on, brings us to now. Bleeding was heavy for 2 days then light for 12 days, now has nearly stopped.

Did a pregnancy test tonight and it’s a cheapie from the dollar store but it still looks VERY positive to me. I don’t have health insurance so I’m keen not to go to a doctor unless I really need to but at what point should I be worried? PIc attached.

Thanks for any help You guys can offer.

Hi OP

I'm sorry I can't offer too much in way of advice but would like to say so sorry for your loss.

I had a miscarriage on 4/10 at 7 weeks (stopped growing at 5 weeks) bleeding stopped on 11/10 and I tested and got a negative just yesterday. I have read that it can take some time for your HCG levels to reduce so all I can suggest is that you give it a few days and check again.

Should also say, I did get a scan from EPAU to ensure that there was no left over tissue as this can also be a cause for pregnancy test to remain positive

I’m sorry for your loss OP. I am pretty much a week or so behind you in miscarriage terms and my HcG levels still show that I’m pregnant. The hormones carry on for a while after MC.

It is heartbreaking to see this when you’re TTC as there is a form of disbelief because the tests still show positive.

I had 3 MC between my two DCs and have currently had an unplanned and unexpected pregnancy/MC.

Take it easy, give yourself a 3 month break (the doctors recommend 9 months but if time is not on your side to conceive then this isn’t always possible) and look after yourself. Your emotions will also be all over the place so again, take it easy on every level Flowers

Thanks guys. I just want to feel 'normal' again. I started bleeding again (tiny amount) off and on, and did another test yesterday, still positive but not as positive as before. The thing I feel paranoid about is infection. I have made an appointment at a clinic, I'm going to try and persuade them to give me antibiotics without sending me for an expensive scan. I figure it's just my body being slow, if I'm still bleeding then i'm less worried about retained material than I was when i thought i had stopped bleeding, but surely there is a risk of infection?

I can't find much info online about this in relation to missed miscarriages. Yes, I started bleeding only a few weeks ago, but the heart stopped beating (I know because i had two very early scans) the first week of september. So I am now more than a month away from when the HCG levels should have stopped rising, and they really can't have been that high to begin with as it was a very early loss.

Anyway, sorry to both of you guys for your losses also. This is my fifth 'loss', three miscarriages, two chemicals. This m/c came directly off the back of a chemical too so it's been a huge rollercoaster.

Really sorry for your loss and really sympathetic that you are having to deal with this in a country that doesn't have proper universal healthcare, that must make it so much worse.

Your body will keep making the pregnancy hormones for as long as there is any material left in the uterus. This may be with or without bleeding but either way it may not sort itself out on its own so you may need further medical intervention. If you aren't getting a negative test then there could be a clot left behind and that could lead to an infection if not dealt with properly. It is OK to wait a few days and test again - when I had a miscarriage the clinic gave me a handful of ultra-cheap (just a strip of thin cardboard) tester strips and told me to wait 2 weeks then test every 4-5 days, and to make a follow up appointment if I didn't get 2 clear negatives in a row before running out of strips.

Which country are you in? If your blood smells fishy and you feel hot and shaky you HAVE to go to hospital!

I’m in Canada, Ernest but not a citizen so no insurance. Am going to go to doctor though. More weird blood and ‘matter’ started coming out today. I guess it’s good it’s coming out, but I want some reassurance.
