Hi everyone,

Bit of background. Have 2 DDs aged 7 and 3. Hubby had testicular cancer shortly after birth of DD1 an we had IVF to concieve DD2. Had an embryo/sperm left from IVF but decided to let that go a couple of years ago. Was told at hubbys last check up fertility may return, but had been 2.5 years and hadn't concieved so had assumed hubby still sterile

Anyways last week realised period late- not sure of date but think period was mid august, so tested sunday morning and test turned positive almost immediately.

Monday eve/morning some brown spotting which stopped but then had pink/rusty brown blood. Have EPU scan this morning as not sure of dates and concerned about bleed. Last night probably between 7 and 10pm started loosing tissue so will go to clinic ito get checked out

I don't know how to feel, wasn't feeling ready about number 3 but was feeling i could come round to it and now this. Hubby not said much but said its all been a headfuck.. we've gone from finding hubbys fertility has recovered, pregnant and miscarriage in 3 days.

Feeling broken....

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I am someone who’s husband had cancer and unfortunately as fertility returns it can come back with a bit of dna damage which means that the sperm are able to fertilise the egg but the dna is not right so they egg doesn’t implant properly - chemical pregnancy. Sounds like that has happened to you. It happened to me three times in the lead up to my husbands diagnosis. When we finally found out he had cancer it made sense as he had lymphoma which is known to cause sperm damage itself, even before chemo!

It’s heartbreaking to have it snatched away so quickly. The really good news is that your husband fertility is returning and the dna damage can be repairable. Google DNA fragmentation - lots of men have been able to lower their % with supplements and vitamins and a healthy lifestyle.

Wishing you the best of luck and make sure you take some time to heal.

Thanks @Fredsgirl19.. had a scan and blood tests. Scan revealed empty gestational sac in my cervix but no yolk sac so likely a blighted ovum, where egg is fertilised and implants but doesn't develop into a fetus properly. Think I was 5-6 weeks pregnant. My hcg levels were 1200 ish on Weds but had dropped to 560 on Friday. They want me to come in for a scan on Thursday as the first scan (last weds) couldn't rule out an ectopic.

Hubby is planning on getting sperm tested to see where we're at though not really sure if we want to plan for a 3rd child. Looking at going back on contraception for a year and see how we feel then.
