Misoprostol for missed miscarriage - how long does it take to work?

Can anyone who has had medical management of missed miscarriage let me know how long it took to take effect? 8 weeks gestation (missed MC, thought I was 10 weeks). I had 4 tabs of pv misoprostol at the hospital on Sunday then 4 hours later an oral tablet. I was discharged later in the day without having had any cramps or bleeding. Still no cramps but some mild bleeding started 12 hours later and has not got any worse all day. Certainly not as much as when I had a natural MC at 5 weeks previously so I am almost certain that it has not come close to passing.
When I opted for this management, I was under the impression that there is around 90% success rate on the day of admission but have now been told that this is 'at some point', which is nice and vague! Can anyone advise? I just want this dreadfulness to be over so I can try to move on and really want to avoid surgical option as it will make me too anxious : (

Hi, sorry if this is too late! And sorry for your loss Flowers

I had the tablets vaginally and about 4 hours later had cramping and bleeding, but not as much bleeding as I knew there should be. The actual bleeding started 5 days later and it was another 2 days until I actually passed the sac. According to the dr, this is normal and they give it up to a week to work. If you're worried at all, just give them another call (I did). Hope that helps x

Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through this too. I wish it was too late a reply as it would mean that the waiting for the inevitable was over. I’m trying medical treatment again at the weekend. Not holding out much hope that it will work though.

Oh bless you, sorry to hear that. Its an absolutely awful waiting game. I'm quite a mild mannered person and I actually rang the hospital and was very irate about the whole thing while I was waiting as it just felt so cruel being in limbo, I'd already been off work for 2 weeks and it was just dragging on and on. So I can totally understand how you feel. I really hope it just happens for you, I was terrified of having a d&c too. Fingers crossed x
