Calling all GPs/Mws! Why am I passing clots and bleeding heavily if I am not miscarrying?

Had a scan on Friday because of some spotting, showed a heartbeat and the embryo was fun. Bleeding got worse at the weekend and had a another scan this morning which showed that the embryo had grown and there was a good strong heartbeat. This afternoon I have passed some clots so firstly can the embryo be miscarried only 3 hours after a healthy scan and if not what is going on?????

How are you today milf?

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 09/08/2007 20:02

Still bleeding heavily but the pain has eased considerably (touch wood). So hoping that things will get better over the weekend and I can relax a bit again

Thank you for being so supportive

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit more relaxed. Everything is still crossed. [scan]

Hope things are going ok for you. I had a lot of bleeding at 9/10 weeks with dd1 (now 5!) - started with brown spots one week - had a scan at the EPU which showed a heartbeat. But then progressed to bright red blood pouring out about a week later. Was convinced that it was game over as had had previous miscarriage. Never did get to the bottom of what happened but went along for 12 week scan expecting to be told all was lost but there she was bigger and still ticking over. The nurse told me that if there is a heartbeat at the early scan then 9/10 good chance that pregnancy will continue. Hope this helps.

I was a bit like lissee but my bleeding started at 12 weeks and continued until 21 weeks, really awful, frightening and scary, in fact one morning I woke up in the early hours to find the bed covered in something similar to a 'b' list horror movie, the clots were that big (sorry, too much info) However, despite the various scans, visits and stays in hospital the result of that pregnancy is now a health 6 and a half year old. For me, they never really did find out what the cause was but thought it was probably a low lying placenta bruching across the top of the cervix, so causing a chafing type effect, which meant that there was a constant trickle of bleeding - that pooled into a clot until heavy enough to come out. The EPU unit people were fantastic, they were more than happy to see me every time I bled and it was very reassuring in what was an emotional roller coaster of a time. Just keep getting everything checked out and if there's a good strong heartbeat be thankful for the reassurance of modern technology.... good luk & hope all is well....

So I guess I can expect to keep bleeding for a bit...sigh... doc said it could go on for a few weeks (up to 3 is not abnormal apparently!?). One great thing about being pregnant is not having to buy any sanitary products, now I am going through a truckload of the things!!!

having another scan and an internal examination (great) on Tuesday.

Oh and its great to know that others have been through this and produced healthy babies at the end of it.

try not to worry too much. i bled on and off from 7 weeks until i delivered at 39 weeks, they never worked out why
dd is 7 months now and happy and healthy
did get fed up of doctors having their hands up my bits tho!
let us know what happens on tuesday, and try to stay positive

mummyto2littleprincess · 10/08/2007 22:30

the same happended to me i went for my scan at 10.30am the same day at 8.35pm i was bleeding really heavy it then stopped but that was losing baby they done a scan next day baby was fine they noticed i had some blood clots next to the sac i havent had any more yet but i could do as still got some inside
im nearly 16wk now and everything is ok

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 11/08/2007 07:16

Well another ride on the rollercoaster of 'will it won't it'. Last night at 10pm I passed what looked like a sac (about 2/3cm) of fluid I have no idea what is going on here, is it possible to MC after the scan was ok on Tuesday (only 3/4 days after finding a healthy heartbeat)?

I am sick of this.

Oh Milf. Is there anyone who can see you or at least talk to you today? This is a very cruel business, you must be at your wits end.

fairyjay · 11/08/2007 07:22

Can't help, but this must be vile for you. Be kind to yourself.

fawkeoff · 11/08/2007 07:23

im so sorry ur having to go through this milf x i would ring a&e if i was you....if you go and see them they will probably scan u on monday morning or if the scan dept is open on weekend they could scan u today

fawkeoff · 11/08/2007 07:25

or u could ring the out of hours gp and go and see them, think it would be daft for youto try and cope over the weekend without talking to a proffesional x

Theclosetpagan · 11/08/2007 07:29

I used to be a midwife (but not for a long while). Sorry to hear you having such a worrying time. It is possible you have had a twin pregnancy and have mc one but I am assuming they have only picked up a single baby on the scan. Have you kept the fluid filled sac? It would be worth ringing the Early Pregnancy Unit today and going in with it so they can see it. I have known cases in the past where a twin has been lost in the early weeks but the other baby has continued to term.
Usually if they see a heartbeat on a scan after 8 weeks the chances of a miscarriage drop to about 1% - so the fact that a heartbeat has been seen is positive. Definitely phone the hospital this morning though.

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 11/08/2007 07:39

Just phoned the out of hours doctor service (why does this stuff always happen at the weekend) and am waiting for a call back. As far as I know they won't scan you at the weekend, will probably have to wait til Monday.

I want this baby so badly, took me two years to conceive DD. Don't want to go through any more stress and upset

OP posts:
Theclosetpagan · 11/08/2007 07:43

for you. Hang on in there though as it may all be okay especially if they didn't see any problems with the baby or placenta when they scanned you. Hope it all turns out to be okay.

fawkeoff · 11/08/2007 07:45

i hope everything goes ok....docs may phone epau for u so u can see them today

lissie · 11/08/2007 07:49

oh shit! you poor thing, keeping everything crossed for you!

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 11/08/2007 09:00

So I spoke to the doc, EPU shut at the weekend so unless I am bleeding heavily or ill they won't see me til Monday (or probably Tuesday) at the earliest.

Doctor was really vague and said it sounded like a complete mc. Couldn't say what else it might be.

OP posts:
lissie · 11/08/2007 09:05

can you ring NHS direct instead? they might be able to get you a scan sooner.

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 11/08/2007 09:14

I tried that but to no avail, hospital near me is quite small so they only run emergency appointments at the weekends. Have to keep busy and I will beg my GP on to get me seen on Monday not Tuesday.

OP posts:
lissie · 11/08/2007 09:37

can you ring the maternity unit directly? someone must see you. or is there a bigger hospital within travelling distance?
