Can I request to be knocked out during D&C? Or will they make me be awake? The pill option wasn't successful for my MMC

Sorry for your loss. I was out for mine. I don't remember being oven the choice. Thanks

zebrapig · 10/08/2019 21:12

I had GA for mine, there was never any suggestion of not having one. Sorry for your loss.

Chocolate35 · 10/08/2019 21:17

Sorry for your loss OP, it gets easier to cope with in time. I had a general anaesthetic too, I think it’s how most hospitals do it.

thismeansnothing · 10/08/2019 21:19

I was given a choice with mine. Sedation or ga. I chose ga

@AnnoyedByAlfieBear @zebrapig @Chocolate35 @thismeansnothing Thank you all for your kind words. My heart breaks for you all. I'm sorry I'm a bit slow with all of this I think it's the shock. GA is where you're put to sleep isn't it?

I'm so sorry about your baby, I had a GA which is standard I think.

Smudge18 · 10/08/2019 21:29

I was also out for mine, it wasn't an option at my Hospital. Sending you lots of hugs

thismeansnothing · 10/08/2019 21:38

Yes GA = general anaesthetic (asleep)

WhiteVixen · 10/08/2019 21:40

I had a general anaesthetic for my D&C too, they never gave me another option. Flowers

Roxy8203 · 12/08/2019 09:43

I was given the option

cuendt · 12/08/2019 10:16

My hospital are making me wait a further week! It's already been a week 😭 am I wrong to think that this is outrageous treatment?!

So sorry this is happening OP, and that's awful you are being made to wait - I agree this is outrageous treatment. What is the reasoning for making you wait?

To answer your original question, I was given a GA, and no other option was discussed so I think that must be standard with these type of operations.

cuendt · 12/08/2019 11:24

@Constance1234 I have no idea, the lady from the hospital rang me and said with the way I reacted to the tablets she is unprepared to give me another dose as she fears something could react badly. I agreed as she is the professional and I wouldn't want something to put me in danger, she then said she called around the hospital and they don't see it as an emergency so I'll be on a waiting list, which is devastating. She said another lady last week chose the D&C and she is waiting 9 days! So traumatic and she must feel awful. Sorry for tmi but the bleeding has sped up but nothing significant. I'm tired, I'm just so exhausted with it all, I still have bills to pay but I refuse to work like this as I work with mental health patients and i need to be in the right mind frame for them.
She also said I could "Lay on the pain thick and go to A&E" I'm in pain yes, but I don't see me storming into A&E making demands healthy for anybody. The whole experience is traumatic enough.
