Can I take medication before a d&c (ERPC)

Hi, unfortunately I went for a scan at 10w to be told I’d had a Mmc at 6 weeks. A scan a week later confirmed this. I’m not booked in for surgery until Friday (it’s Wed night) and I’m getting aches/cramping and some blood when wiping. I have a horrible feeling I’m not going to make it to the Friday so my question is ... I’m taking paracetamol just now and will take Ibuprofen also if it gets worse. Is this ok right up to when I go in on Friday? If I’m in pain I can’t take nothing?!? Xx

I'm so sorry @Julesalmost40 💐

I've been there with a MMC.

You can take pain relief. At 10 weeks you may find the cramps pretty painful (your cervix is dilating, like in early labour) so take pain relief, and attend hospital if significant blood loss. Attend anyway on Friday to determine if EPRC is still needed.

Take care 🧡

Typo sorry - ERPC.

Hi OP. I'm so sorry for your loss. The same happened to me a few months ago.

I was told it was fine to take pain relief as needed prior to my ERPC (I have a long-standing joint problem which mean I use prescribed painkillers) so I'd imagine that paracetamol or other over the counter pain relief would also be fine.

Take care Thanks

Thanks 👌 I just wasn’t sure if I could still have the op if I’ve been taking things after the midnight food and drink ban. I just hope I last out until Friday, this waiting is so unfair given I was 100% sure of my dates so for me a second scan wasn’t necessary xx
