Brown discharge - need reassurance!

Had a mmc in April at 10w. Baby was only 6w4d. It started with light spotting which went from light brown to pink and then I had a scan and miscarried a couple of days later.

Pregnant again, 8 weeks today. Had a scan on Monday and was measuring exactly right and there was a heartbeat, sonographer had no concerns. Have since have some brownish discharge similar to the end of a period. I just wondered if anyone had had similar and it turned out to be okay? I can’t phone gp today obviously and I don’t think it’s bad enough to phone epu I think they're only interested if you start bleeding heavily. Sigh! Was feeling more positive after Monday and now this. ☹️

Hi op brown discharge is old blood, so you're probably ok but i would go to epu to get checked. I had a similar small bleed at 14w and it was all fine. Best of luck and sorry about your mc 💐

I'm 23w now and had spotting a few times in my last pregnancy (4yo dd) too. They thought it was just random cervical bleeding.

Thank you x
I haven’t got the number for epu unfortunately and when I spoke to a midwife last time they were so dismissive. I went through my gp in the end who referred me for an early scan so I will get an appointment on Monday if it carries on I think.

You should be able to self refer to the epu, Google the number, although it might be a few days until they see you.

Some people can get spotting at the same time there period would have been due so 8 weeks sounds about right?

in terms of referral to EPU a lot of them don't allow self referral and you'd need to go via your midwife x

I wouldn't worry too much - spotting can be common during the first trimester. If you start bleeding red or you get cramps then I would ring your doctor.

MrsMGE · 22/06/2019 14:11

If you had that in your first pregnancy which ended up being MMC I'd go to the EPAU personally. I've had exactly the same and calmed myself down reading various threads, also spoke to the midwife and was reassured. The truth is in some pregnancies it is absolutely fine and normal, in other it is not. Wish we could predict things and understand it better, but in reality the only way to find out is a scan & blood tests (if needed). Wishing you all the best and a good outcome Flowers

Thank you for your kind messages! It has carried on on and off this week and I have tried to have the mindset that if I’m going to miscarry again it’ll happen anyway so I may as well wait and see. Anyway I went for another private scan today and everything is fine! Right size and strong heartbeat so fingers crossed everything’s still okay in 3 and a half weeks at 12 week scan! Thanks everyone x

I'm a bit of an odd one but I bled non-stop on and off with both of my pregnancies during the first trimester. Dd1 it was 5 to 11 weeks, dd2 6 to 20 but with a particularly frightening bonus bleed at 25 weeks. I've never had a miscarriage fwiw...

It's awful I know, but it may just be the effect that the pregnancy hormones have on your body

tomatan1990 · 22/06/2019 21:55

God yes that must have been terrifying! Yup I think bodies will just do strange things as it’s such an intense change to go through

This is still going on! Saw my midwife for booking in appt this week and she just said oh maybe it’s implantation bleeding (at 9 weeks really?) and if I started having pain or red blood then to phone my gp. So that sucks.

I think I will have to pay for another scan as I can’t wait another 3 weeks for my 12 week. Anyway I just wanted to vent somewhere!

Oh tomatan what a nightmare! I'm so sorry you've not got an answer. It's probably completely benign and normal but totally understand your uneasiness, so best to get that scan and be reassured. When is it?

tomatan1990 · 27/06/2019 13:56

Thanks pillowcase! I will book one for next week I think, then 12 week is on the 17th. I feel like this is the longest wait of my life so just trying to keep busy and distracted
