HCG levels after D&C

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering how long it took for your HCG levels to go back to 0 after your D&C? EPU (early pregnancy unit) have told me to wait until I have a 0 HCG level before me and my husband can even have sex again! Is this right? Yes, I know we can use protection but personally we don’t want to due to not liking it.

I have my bloods done tomorrow to check my levels as it’s been 2 weeks since my D&C so I am praying it’s at 0. I’ve been going through this process for so many months now it’s mind draining.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Xx

The EPU didn't tell me that so we weren't abstaining.
Sorry for your loss.

I've been told just to wait until bleeding stops or 2 weeks if bleeding stops before then. Sorry that you're going through this too xx

Hi there, I am very sorry for your loss FlowersAs far as I know, the reason they ask you to wait until your hcg levels are 0 before you try again is because if you got pregnant straight away after a d&c, it would be difficult to date for a doctor and there might be uncertainty as to whether it is a new pregnancy or some remaining tissue from the previous one. This is what I was told when I had a d&c and the doctors asked me to wait until I had at least one period before trying again. I did a pregnancy test 3 wks after the d&c and it was negative. We started trying again after this as period took over 6 wks to show up. Many couples try again straight away without waiting for their first af, there are a couple of threads on this. Hope this helps.
