Hi all i had a d&c on 25th april, bleeding was very light and more or less non existent then stopped completely for 3 days, im now bleeding again and wondering is this normal? Surely my period wouldnt be here already! Is there no end to the physical misery 😭

I would think it is a period of sorts - it's the shedding of your uterine lining as I don't think they remove that as part of the D&C x

It's normal and probably not a period just yet - many ladies bleed on and off for awhile. Contact a doctor if it lasts for more than a week or gets very heavy xxx.

Hi @lea89 u honestly have nothing to be scared of, the only regret i have is i didnt go for mine sooner as i would have been so much better mentally. U will be taken in and given a pessary then u have to let that work for a couple hours (take a book or something to keep u occupied) the nurses will be in and out checking blood pressure/height/weight etc do not eat or drink anything from whatever time u have been told as the anesthestist wont allow it to go ahead if u do. U will then be taken down for the procedure now i wont lie it is quite daunting but the nurses are lovely and so reassuring then u will be put to sleep and u wake up in recovery about 20 mins later with mild cramps and the bleeding is so much lighter than before u have the procedure, i was given a heated blanket for my abdomen which really helped with the cramps (albeit they were not as bad as normal period cramps) again nurses will check on u for a few hours after and then u get home. I bled for about 2 weeks after the procedure on and off but it was extremely light (only got heavier when i was overdoing it) i havent bled now for about a week so its just a wait now for my period. U will also be asked if u want to take the "tissue" they remove home with u, i said no because im going to plant a tree and got myself a couple of wee things to remember my wee bean but each to their own on this decision i just couldnt face it. The advice for afterwards i will give u is keep topped up on painkillers for couple days after! Even if u think u dont need them take them for at least 2 days (standard paracetemol) and u should be grand. When its all over u can finally start to heal both physically and mentally. @charlied82 I can’t thank you enough for replying to me! It’s made me feel so much more at ease reading your post. I’m more scared of not waking up from the GA. They told me it’s only a light GA but it still worries me. I will take my book Thankyou! (Mrs Hinch book to be precise!) I will give you a message after it all tomorrow and let you j ow how I got on. Did you take any PJ’s or anything? Xx

They give u the anesthestic based on your weight and height so honestly dont be worrying, ur only out for the length of the procedure and then brought round in recovery. I had pjs with me for after because they have u in one of those horrendous gowns that u can see through 🙈 so its more for comfort while u are recovering

@lea89 it will depend what time u have ur procedure, there was a hold up with me getting a bed so they couldnt do the pessary until after 10.30am and then had to leave it 2-3 hours to work so i only went down around 2pm and then they monitor u for a few hours after x have they explained to u that sometimes the pessary will do it for u and u may not need the procedure? Apparently it happens some people but unfortunately it didnt do it for me, maybe u could be one of the "lucky" (i use this term loosely as no such thing as lucky in these circumstances) ones x

@charlied82 Oh... no they never mentioned that. They mentioned I will be having the pessary. I’m going back this afternoon to get consented etc and sign the forms. They’ve explained to me that I have to be there for 7am, procedure around 8:30ish. I only know this because I was booked in for one about 6 weeks ago but I didn’t go through with it because I was that scared xx

U honestly have nothing to worry about, i was petrified going in and in complete hysterics all morning waiting for it, couldnt stop crying at all and it was no bother at all!

@charlied82 Oh I hope so! I’ve been back today to get consented etc but they’ve moved my appointment to the afternoon! So I now have to be there for 12pm instead of 7am. Can’t eat anything after 7am so I will be starrrrrvingggg !! I just want it to be tomorrow now and get it all done with xx

No but i had been under anesthetic before so that part didnt worry me, it was the thought of the procedure that had me up to high doe! The doc started to tell me what she would be doing and i said (nicely) to her there are some things i dont need to know and she went on about prepping me without discussing too much! U will be fine x

Girls.. I’ve done it! I’m home. All went well but I was absolutely petrified going down to theatre, they had to give me something to calm me down. I was out for about an hour. All went really smoothly so just hoping it’s all over now and nothing left over. They said they got out what they could but there wasn’t much there anyway! Thanks for all your support girls over this last week it’s really been a big help xxx
