How long did it take for heavy bleeding?

Hello all. I was wondering how long it took you to go from the spotting/bleeding upon wiping to a heavy blood loss?

My scan was on Tuesday and I started bleeding Thursday night. It has been very mild however with no real cramps. The very first little gush was red but since then it's been a red/brown with no clots. A pregnancy test I took today is much fainter than last week so I think my body has "realised". I should be 6 weeks but so far it's a lot less than a standard period for me.

I don't want to risk going too far from home as I have no idea what to expect. Thank you

I'm in the middle of my 4th miscarriage at nearly 6 weeks. Each has taken around a week to be over start to finish - the heavy bleeding bit really depends on how high your hcg levels got and how far along you were?
At 6 weeks you may find it's only a couple of days of heavy bleeding or you may pass the uterine lining all in one go - the deciduous caste - in which case it will be over relatively quickly.
I've always found hot baths bring it on quicker as the hot water relaxes the muscles xx

Thank you @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted and sorry to hear about your situation.

I should be 6.5 weeks now, last digital pregnancy test I did was about 10 days ago which said 2-3 weeks and my internet cheapy tests were quite dark so think my hormone levels are, or at least were, relatively high. Hospital said no need to take hcg blood tests. I am back in tomorrow for the follow up scan so hopefully that'll give a good indication on what's going on. I just have that heavy uterus feeling at the moment. I was hoping since I started bleeding lightly that by tomorrow the worst would've happened.

Hope you recover soon x

I'm wondering how long it will take before I'm happy being more than 4 feet from the loo.

By LMP I should have been be around 6w now. I haven't been scanned or had bloods because it wasn't required according the EPU as their urine test was negative. (My tests were still as positive as before the bleeding, after theirs were neg - I'll wait till next week before I test again as I want them to be negative too before we start again)

I haven't had any cramping or pain. Just alternating between brown and red with a couple of small clots when I wipe, and not all the time. I haven't needed pads at any point and it's now it's practically stopped been 5-7days. Is that really it?!? Has anyone else had such a light bleed with a MC?
It's not that I don't believe that it's over but I want to know it's all done.

My periods aren't normally as light as that so how can it all be out!?

Hi Pinkoi in my case, and this isn't to say this is happening to you, it turned out to be ectopic. The day after the follow up bloods showed an increase not decrease in hcg my proper symptoms kicked in and I had surgery.

If you had positive tests at home plus this light bleeding please try and get to either a&e or your EPU to rule out things like retained products or ectopic. I must say my EPU told me to go to a&e which I did and both the nurse and doctor were not very clued up on ectopic so don't worry about being forceful on wanting to be checked out properly. Once they did, they were great and the ward I went to who deal with ladies in our situations every day was fantastic and very supportive.

I hope you get some answers soon and sorry you're in this situation.

@DieCryHate

I'm sorry to hear you have been through this and thanks for your experience.

It's been in the back of my mind that an ectopic might be a thing, but I have had no pain thus far.

But I don't know how to get anyone to listen to me when their NHS urine tests say negative. Both times I have seen a professional about this they have tested me negative. I just want to see my own tests start to fade too. I don't want to present as that highly strung person TTC who won't let a very early miscarriage go....
I guess I just have to watch myself over the coming weeks and test down to negative every few days...

That's rubbish Pinkoi, I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Could taking your positive tests with you help maybe? My doctors surgery has a blood test drop in which you don't need to have an appointment for, is there anything like this available where you are? You could ask them to test for hcg/progesterone? I believe from what I was told in hospital anything above 5 for hcg is akin to a positive result. I don't think doctors urine tests are as sensitive as some of the ones we can purchase.

I had a debrief at the hospital yesterday and she was saying an ectopic can be dangerous even with a very low hcg level (she actually quoted 30; some tests don't even give a positive until 25 or 50 hcg). I think mine was 1450 but the girl opposite me was on much lower. It is so variable.

Perhaps call 111 and explain? I had no pain until I was 7+1 and it came on very suddenly accompanied by big increase of bleeding.

Alternatively could you book a private scan? Nothing showed on my scan on the Tuesday but scan on Friday confirmed 3cm ectopic. Apparently they have form for just popping up on preciously clear scans.

Sorry if these are useless suggestions. I have no medical training whatsoever but just going by what I've been told these past few weeks. It can be serious and I think you're absolutely right to want to rule out certain conditions. Good luck

@DieCryHate

This is useful stuff - thanks.

It sounds like you really have been through it - I'm glad you are getting all the follow up though.

I guess if I take a frer in the next day or two and compare it with the one I took last weekend, I should see the line disappearing by now if it's gone. It was such an early loss I can't think the HCG would stay at the same level for a week.

Private scan might be an option too. I looked up costs when they refused to see me to the EPU at the start of the week.

Xx

@pinkoi I really hope you get some answers soon, I'll be thinking of you. It's such a hard time especially when barely anyone knows you're pregnant!
