Pathology report

Hi everyone - some of you may know me from the other thread, first pregnancy missed miscarriage. Lots of supportive ladies on there - it's the best! My only reason for posting a separate query here is that I have a very specific issue and I am hoping for some help on it.

I received a letter today saying I have a follow-up appointment in seven days to discuss pathology results following a D&C for my first mmc. That's it. My GP said they would only contact me if something was wrong, so I assume it is. My question is - what could the results possibly be? What are the worst/best outcomes? Does it definitely mean molar pregnancy or does the NHS also do chromosomal testing? This is my first mc and I am 31. Please help I am so worried and will have to wait five more days until the appointment to find out.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I just wanted to offer some support. I had a late miscrriage at 19 weeks in January and the post mortem results are back. We've been called to the hospital to discuss them with the consultant next week and have no idea what to expect either. We've been told there's a 90% chance they won't have been able to find out why our babies died IU but my fear is that it MAY have been a genetic abnormality.

I'm truly sorry for your loss and I hope you get some answers. I'm just sorry I can't ease your pain.

@Squiff70 I’m so sorry for your loss, I can’t even imagine losing twins at 19 weeks. I keep telling myself I was lucky only to be nearing 13 weeks and not have stillbirth, but I’m still reeling from the shock of the mmc and the D&C for my first pregnancy and now I am 99% sure they will tell me on Wednesday that it was a partial molar pregnancy. I know partial molar doesn’t mean cancer exactly, but my mum died of breast cancer last year at exactly the time of my mmc this year in February and I can’t bear to even hear this word right now.

I hope your results come back normal, even though I know that will also be hard. I just never knew these things could happen. Anyway, thanks for answering me and I hope things work out for you in the end X.

Has anyone had a partial molar pregnancy and can help me understand? I had a BFN three weeks after D&C, so isn’t that a good sign that hcg levels are low?

Did you see the scan screen ? molar pregnancy often looks like snow, so you can't see a fetus shape.

I'm never sure what a mmc is ? Is it when you don't know until the scan ? Or just that the miscarriage takes longer to happen so you think you are more weeks, but the pregnancy ended earlier ?

I know someone who had a molar found at a scan and they were fine, no cancer. But had to wait a bit longer to get the all clear as they do extra tests and wait a bit longer to ttc again. They had a D&C once it was discovered on the scan.

Sorry for your loss Thanks I've suffered a miscarriage and in the end had a D&C and it takes time to heal, especially emotionally.

@dogtireddogtired mmc means missed miscarriage - I had no sign of bleeding or anything until the 12 week scan. I think it's a partial molar because I saw the baby on the scan (measuring 9 weeks) and there were no snow things - this is typical of partial, as I understand it. The GP never mentioned anything about a molar pregnancy, but I guess they only find the partial ones when they test the tissue from d&c and get pathology reports back. My reports are back now and they are calling me in on Wednesday to learn more. It's clearly something bad, or they wouldn't call me in for a follow-up, and I think they only test for molar so I am guessing that is what it is.

I started a "partial molar" thread as I am now convinced that is what it is. Please reply there if you have had one and can offer any guidance or hope. Thanks so much.

Conversely, if anyone has had a follow-up letter six weeks after d&c and it wasn't for partial molar, please let me know!
