Blighted ovum - how long will this take? Feels never-ending

Hi ladies,

I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum on 18/01 (I should have been 8wks then but gestational sac was only 6wks large, no embryo), confirmed a week later by ultra-sound. It was a huge surprise to me as I had several positive pregnancy tests and lots of symptoms (morning sickness, sore breasts, etc). I started bleeding/spotting 8 days ago, which has progressed to heavier bleeding and cramping, but nothing major. some clotting but nothing big. I haven't seen or felt the sac come out at all.

I was given Cytotec to induce the miscarriage but haven't take it yet since my body has already started bleeding, but I'm just not sure how long this is going to take and it's really stressing me out :( I'm feeling completely exhausted, physically and emotionally. I just want my body to expel everything so I can move on, but so far, it's taking its sweet time.

Is it normal for it to take so long?

Can any of you please share your experiences?

Sorry no one has responded so far OP. I don’t know the answer I’m afraid. I had two blighted ova in consecutive pregnancies and had an ERPC each time. I decided to do that because my body hadn’t recognised that I had miscarried so I had no confidence I would miscarry quickly. Hope you’re okay.

I spotted from 4 weeks to 11 weeks before having an ERPC for same reasons. I didn't realise I was pregnant til 6 weeks, then didnt get first scan until 8 then had to wait 2 weeks to confirm nothing had developed, then by time I could get an appointment for surgery I was 11 weeks. In all that time my body hadn't done what it needed to but I'd recommend the ERPC as a means of getting closure more quickly.

I had blighted Ovum at my 12 week scan, total surprise to me too apart from a bit of brown spotting. My body took a week to cotton on and expel. Then bleeding for a couple of weeks after.

I’m so sorry this had happened to you x

Sorry for your loss 💐
A couple of years ago I had a silent miscarriage. Had no idea anything was wrong until 12 week scan. I decided to wait to miscarry naturally without any medication. I did later regret this as it took a whole week and was mentally draining. I did some research and found a piece of information stating that cinnamon (tea) can hurry things along. 6 cups in one day and I did miscarry that day. Probably just a coincidence but worth a shot. Xxx
