Ultrasound after miscarriage

Is it standard practice to automatically be booked in for an ultrasound for a couple of weeks after a miscarriage? I thought I would only be booked in for a scan if there was indications that not all the tissue had passed?

I only passed the baby last night, but had to phone the EPU as I was booked in for a scan on Wednesday to confirm miscarriage, so I phoned to cancel. They've asked me to go in for a scan next Wednesday instead.

It may seem silly, but I was there on Monday and saw my baby with a heartbeat after my first bleed. Less than a week later and my baby is gone. I'm not sure i can face going back there to make sure all evidence of my baby is gone.

I think it's just to make sure there's nothing there that can cause infection, awful as it sounds.

With mine when I went back in, they didn't send me down to the general ultrasound where all the pregnant ladies are, but did it in a room within the EPU. So it wasn't as traumatising as I thought.

Thinking of you xx

They don't at my local EPU, I asked for a follow up scan after my first loss which they were happy to do though x

Thanks ladies, had the scan done and they were very sensitive and made it as bearable as possible. Thankfully nothing left just endometrium slightly thickened still. It has actually helped with a bit of closure x
