Going back to work - tips for coping

I’m going back to work tomorrow after my mc 2 and a half weeks ago. I miscarried the week before the 12 week scan though had bleeding the week before and an early scan revealed that the pregnancy got to 8 + 5. I’ve had a bit of time of the last few months for other things and have had almost three weeks now after the mc. I know everyone is different and some people can bounce back physically quite quickly but for me it was a bit of a struggle. I have been so tired and my follow on blood tests revealed that I had low levels of iron. I’m going back on a phased return tomorrow so reduces hours for 2 weeks. I’ve been in the organisation over a decade though in my current team only a matter of months and had a lot of absences. My manager had told my new team why I’ve been off though I’m still anxious about my first day back. Grateful for any tips on how others have coped about going back to work? Thanks xx

Hi, I don't really have any wise words I'm afraid but just wanted to say hope your return to work went ok. I'm going back later this week after a missed miscarriage three weeks ago. I think it's really difficult to know when it's the right time to go back. x

Hope that it went OK and that your colleagues were supportive. I was also supposed to go back today (after m/c early Monday morning) but I was feeling a bit under the weather and wimped out in the end! xx

Thank you both. I think it went ok, I’m lucky in that I asked to go back on a phased return which I think was a good idea. I’m also glad I told my manager to tell the team why I had been off. I did have a couple of moments when I was a bit teary. I hope it goes ok for you both too.

Wow, Bella that is really fast to go back. I suooose everyone is different. The first week after I don’t think I could have gone back physically as my iron levels were low and I felt light headed quite a lot and I didn’t feel emotionally ready until this week x

I'm glad it went OK for you @NicolaG12. It's great that you are comfortable enough with your colleagues for them to know - I hope that everyone was supportive.

I'm going back tomorrow - I'm feeling a bit weird mood-wise, but I think it may help to get back to some kind of normality!
