Bleeding before d&c?

Hi I found out on Friday I had had a missed miscarriage and was booked in for a d&c on Tuesday (tomorrow).

I have just started bleeding and lightly cramping about half an hour ago. I am dreading this and the reason I declined medical management is because I didn't want to see anything. What are the chances they will still do the d&c tomorrow or will they leave me to naturally miscarry? Does anyone have any experiences? Thankyou x

Hi, I don't know what they will do, I suspect it depends on a number of things. How far along were you? They let me miscarry naturally at 6 weeks, but a friend of mine had a missed miscarriage picked up at the 12 week scan and they gave her the option of a d & c or wait and see. She partially miscarried and they then gave a D & C to ensure it was all out...

I was 10 weeks and 5 days. The bleeding is really heavy now and I am passing some clots. I gave the hospital a call and they told me to still come tomorrow. I am just heartbroken Sad

Hi @ShowerTheHorse sorry to hear you're in this situation. I had a similar experience - had mmc diagnosed and was told to come back in a week for a rescan and to book surgical management. The bleeding and pain started the night before and I went into hospital that day right in the midst of miscarrying. I was feeling very faint and dizzy so they gave me IV fluids and I then had the MVA procedure which is like a D&C but under local anaesthetic as they said I wouldn't have to wait as long due to not having to wait for an anaesthetist.

Even though it was my worst nightmare having things start naturally like that, I was glad to be in hospital as I didn't cope well with the blood and pain, plus they removed the sac and all remaining tissue so I didn't have to see anything and got it all out that day. It was a bit embarrassing being examined and scanned when bleeding heavily but I'm sure they are used to it. I got to hospital at 11am and was home by 6, and had some bleeding and cramping for just over a week afterwards but it's all gone now.

Wishing you luck and strength to get through this awful time, and I hope you are well looked after Thanks

@ShowerTheHorse how did it go?

ShowerTheHorse · 23/08/2018 19:50

Hi @antipodeankat the pains and bleeding got much worse the night before I was due to be admitted but still went and was scanned. The baby was still there but very low down so I opted to still do it surgically.

They said the surgery went smoothly and all was well. I've slept mostly for 2 days I needed it I think, we are both devastated. The bleeding is tapering off now and I'm up and about today! Although I keep remembering and welling up about our baby.

Also thankyou to PP for their advice and well wishes Flowers
