3 m/cs then succesful pregnancy?

Anybody had three miscarriages then gone on to have a succesful pregnancy? I have had three now and am awaiting date to go to recurrent mc clinic. Just wondering if anybody has any nice stories to give me incentive to continue trying.

that's great you'll be seen at the clinic , hop eyou get some answers.
I haven't had 3 in a row, but did have 3 and it was pretty rough going. Felt v alone. I had a number of tests done (requested by v sympathetic gp) but nothing came up.

I have 3 children now and can't believe my luck. It is just that - luck - pregnancy, conception, fertility seems to be such a lottery.
lots of luck

Greenwichmum2 · 01/06/2007 18:48

yes, I had 3 early ones (4 if you count an ectopic pregnacy) while having IVF over a period of about 5 years. Was referred by the fertility clinic to Lesley Regan at St Mary's, and she carried out various tests and found no explanation. I was upset by that, because I was looking for a reason. She said, better for their not to be a reason, it might be one we can't do anything about! However, she monitored my next pregancy, and that went absolutely fine. 2 years later, was pregnant again, too busy with work / toddler to go back to her clinic, but another healthy baby ensued. So, don't give up!
best of luck.

frogger - sympathise with you as have had 2 m/c and then termination due to major abnormalties so can understand how tough it is

not quite the same as the stories above but this thread gave me some hope

I have had 2 mc and am now 14 weeks, so not 3 mc though. My heart does go out to you! After I have my 2nd one there was someone on here saying they had 5 and then gone on to have a baby. Have you read the Lesie Regan book - that gives you hope. If you want I am more than willing to give you my copy.

harrisey · 01/06/2007 22:07

I've had 3, but not in a row.
2, then dd1
another mc then ds
then dd2.

Probably not that helpful but I know someone who had 6 mc and then 2 children.

kittyhas6 · 01/06/2007 23:03

I've had about 6 miscarriages and three of those were in a row. I went on to have 2 children after that, having had 4 children and three miscarriages before that.

Matonic · 01/06/2007 23:15

I'm another Lesley Regan graduate - three MCs, now have a hale and hearty ds. Like GreenwichMum2, the clinic could find no conclusive reasons for mc's, also like GreenwichMum2, I felt a bit put out by this at the time!

It's all perfectly possible, frogger77, I think getting pregnant with and giving birth to ds is quite the most astonishing thing that has ever happened to me.

berolina · 01/06/2007 23:36

my pg history:
mc
ds (now 2)
mc
mc
now 25 weeks pg with dc2

The 2 in a row were within 2 cycles, so just over 2 months of each other. Recurrent mc (as I'm sure you know) is defined as 3 or more in a row, but even that many can 'just' be down to bitter bad luck. Even after 3 consecutive mcs you still have more chance of the next pg working out than not.

Mc is horrible - but don't give up hope.

harpsichordcarrier · 01/06/2007 23:54

frogger I am very sorry for your losses.
I have had five pregnancies
three ended in m/c (but not in a row)
two began as twin pregnancies, but in both cases I m/s one twin in the first trimester.
my sister had one live birth, then six or even (iirc) m/cs in a row, then two more live births.

have you been referred to St Marys?

frogger77 · 02/06/2007 08:45

Thank you all for your messages. I am feeling a bit more positive today. I will get the lesley regan book and see what that says.
Thank you again for answering.
Harpsichord I am in Edinburgh so have been referred to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

hi frogger, glad you are feeling more positive today.
would you mind telling us about your m/c's? there might be someone on here with some experience to help you.
I found reflexology helpful at the time, and also giving up work

poppy34 · 02/06/2007 13:40

berolina -just reading your thread about your 2 m/c being in a row . Do you mean you had your first then fell pregnant in first cycle after that and had second m/c? Just interested as that was pattern for my first two and although I don't discount 2nd m/c as was painful/upsetting, I do think in hindsight it was bound to happen given my physical/emotional state at the time.

Isn't it also one of those things that they do say can make more m/c likely (if you don;t wait full cycle - I hadnt even had one period before I fell pregnant for m/c no 2 -was gobsmacked I could get pregnat)

sorry to hijack thread..but got thinking when harpsihcordcarrier asked frogger for more info.

harpsichordcarrier · 02/06/2007 13:43

poppy, the advice about waiting a full cycle isn't about risk, according to the consultant I spoke to, but about having some clarity about your cycle/due dates if you do get pregnant.
happy to be corrected on that.

hellish · 02/06/2007 13:47

Glad you are feeling more positive, don't give up. I had one mc but was so happy when I went on to have my lovely dd. I can only try to imagine the worry and pain you must have to deal with. A friend of mine just had her dd1 two months ago after 3mcs.

It will be so worth it - don't give up.

frogger77 · 02/06/2007 17:17

I lost my first one at about five weeks a year and a half ago. My second was in Feb this year at 6 weeks and then this one on Friday.
I thought I was about 8 weeks and went for a scan ten days ago and they put me at 6+3 and said could I come back in ten days to give it chance to grow to see heartbeat. They could see yolk sac and yolk and fetal pole so assured me nothing was wrong and all was as it should be for dates. I accepted this as I hadnt really had a period since my mc in Feb so thought i might have just made a mistake. Went back in on Thursday and was told there was no difference in size and it should have at least doubled so they think it might have stopped growing weeks ago. It is classified as a missed miscarriage. Now I am just waiting to see if I will miscarry naturally or need to go in for d&c.
I was also told that waiting one cycle is purely to halp date things.

wheresthehamster · 02/06/2007 17:32

I had 3 mcs then 3 beautiful girls.

I was put on progesterone after 2 mcs. As it didn't work it was doubled for my next pregnancies and coincidence or not it worked.

I felt very let down with the after care each time and after the 3rd I basically decided I couldn't go through the disappointment any more and gave up.

I fell for dd1 without knowing it and caught chicken pox when I was 5 weeks pg. I never thought I would get to term!!

Please don't dispair there ARE happy endings

berolina · 02/06/2007 20:00

Poppy, only just got back to this. I did indeed get pg again after the second mc without having a period and then had the third mc, but I do not believe they were connected, as they were so very different - one started spontaneously with low hCG levels and the other (my third one) was a blighted ovum (discovered by chance at a scan) with no bleeding and lots and lots of hCG. When I had the third mc I was told by a couple of doctors that obviously I'd got pg far too soon, but although I'm not a medic even I could tell how unscientific (not to mention insensitive) that actually was - in a blighted ovum all the processes except the development of the embryo happen normally. The waiting one cycle thing is partly about dating, partly in order to give the woman reassurance her body is 'working' again. Having a period also means that the hCG is almost certainly completely back to normal, i.e. non-pg levels.

berolina - thanks for your post.

both my m/c were missed m/c . Think the lack of info (apart from stuff I read myself) at both my first 2 scans might explain my ignorance!

bramblina · 11/06/2007 23:41

Frogger if you are still here, I had 4 mcs then my ds. Mcs were 14,11,6,5 wks. I can only describe that period as hell and never, until I held my darling darling son in my arms, did I ever believe it would happen, so I really do sympathise with you.

I had a few investigations and tests, they found nothing, and as others have said, I was glad as then I could just count myself as a statistic and try to believe there would be a successful pg. I was referred to a recurrent mc clinic too, then the month after my 4th mc, I fell pg with ds so I was referred to an early pg clinic, and had 4 "reassurance" scans before my booking in one at 12 weeks, they gave me such hope and made a world of difference. I was also told that they only ask you to leave a month so they can date the next pg accurately, but was I hell waiting!

Good luck with everything.

3flightsofstairs · 12/06/2007 01:02

Hi Frogger, another 3mcs here but currently 37 weeks pg with DS2 so don't give up hope. I was really down (and ended up seeing v helpful counsellor) and our genetic investigations showed a wonky - scientific term! - chromosome, so although we had a possible reason for the mcs, it made me even more scared of being pg as the outcome of a full term pg could be very

Hope your tests show up nothing amiss - stay strong and good luck xx

frogger77 · 12/06/2007 20:59

Well I miscarried naturally. Have a scan tomorrow to confirm that everything is away.
Thank you very much for all your positive messages it does give me hope that it is possible to beat all the statistics.
I will hopefully get some info about when I am likely to be seen by the recurrent miscarriage clinic tomorrow.
Thanks again for posting!

Oh frogger, you have my deepest sympathy. It can be really hard but be good to yourself and make sure you shout for the support you need and deserve.

Take your time and stay strong. xx

Hi there. I had 2mcs then baby, then 3 mcs and baby and am now 35 weeks pg. Tewsts found i have Factor V Leiden and I have been treaated for this in last 2 pregnancies. Have you read Lesley Regan's book? In it there are stats concernining likelihood of next pg being successful based on no of previous mcs. I was comnforted by fact that after 3 ina row it is still more likely that next pg will be successful. Synpathies and besyt wishes.

Eulalia · 12/06/2007 22:25

My friend has, well its successful so far. She is about 16 weeks now. The miscarriages were quite far apart over several years, first one fairly early on about 8 weeks, next one at 12 weeks with no heartbeat on the scan and the 3rd also about 12 weeks. She is 40, 41 when baby will be born and it just seemed like bad luck. Hope it all works out for you.
