Trisomy 16

Hi - just wondering if anyone can tell me more about recurrent miscarriage and trisomy 16? Just got results of the testing on the foetus for our most recent miscarriage (others happened naturally so weren't tested) and been told it was caused by trisomy 16.
I've also been told that they therefore want to do karyotyping tests on me and my DH because of this.
We have a 5 year old DS, but struggling with unexplained secondary infertility for about 3 years and have had IVF but been pregnant 4 times now in the 3 years, but no baby.
Anyone know anything about trisomy 16 and or why that would trigger further tests and what they are looking for with karyotyping and how likely there is to be something wrong with either of us given we have a DS..?
Thanks

Hi Hobbes39.

I also suffered from recurrent miscarriage. I had a DD in 2014 and then 5 miscarriages after her. All my miscarriages had been natural and then miscarriage number 5 was a MMC so we managed to get it tested and it came back with Trisomy 16. I was seeing a private consultant at the time and he said it was just one of those things and could have happened to anyone. He didn't request any karyotyping tests (even though I wanted to do).

I got pregnant a couple of months after that and am currently 26 weeks and so far everything is looking as it should. I had the harmony test done to rule out any chromosomal abnormalities and everything came back low risk.
I'm not sure why your consultant requested karyotyping as everything that I read about trisomy 16 pointed to it being quite common and given that you already have a healthy DS I would think it was just one of those unfortunate things.
Wishing you the best of luck on this awful journey :( xx
