Brown spotting 3 weeks after miscarriage?

Hi, I had a natural miscarriage at 6 weeks, bled for around 6 days and haven't had anything at all since. Until this weekend when I started spotting very light pink which was there when I wiped and then a stringy brown discharge type stuff. I thought my period was coming but this has now stopped... has anyone else had this or knows what it could be? Xx

Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about the miscarriage. It's pretty miserable - even in the early stages. I should know - I've had 4, at 11weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, and 5 weeks. The most recent was bleeding for about 9 days, then I ovulated at 14 days (I did an ovulation stick which confirmed) and then 6 days after that I was at a party and had a small bleed. Nothing else until a bit of light pink then brown discharge a few days later (today in fact). I've done so much research on all this.. Fact is, it's probably just hormones being strange. There is of course a chance you are pregnant again (my friend miscarried a few months ago then fell pregnant in the weeks following) and that you are having some very normal spotting or implantation bleed. Or (and I don't want to get your hopes up) it's your hormones having some highs and lows - e.g. if you get a progesterone 'low' and you've a nice cushty uterus then some will break a bit and you'll get some spotting.
The important thing is don't fret. Usually, any "retained product" would result in proper bleeds and some clots, not just a bit of spotting.
Following my miscarriages, my periods have been very much like this - start with some spotting or brown discharge then nothing for a few days until finally it comes.
Things will settle down.

@orangedahlia31 thank you for all the info and so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I'm just not sure wether to class this as a period or not? It's got a little heavier but still nothing like my period as it is either brown or very light pink colour.... xx

If I were you I would count it as your hormone levels dropping pre-period, because your hormones are up the creek post-mc. You will most likely get your period in a few days, but you might want to check with your GP whether it's worth having a quick scan at EPU to make sure there's no retained product. GP will probably say what mine did - that if you have only light bleeding/spotting and no fever/sickness etc, it's not worth going to EPU. And, EPU can be quite an upsetting place to be if you've miscarried, so don't go unless your GP really thinks you should.
I'm going through the same today - and I'm planning on just waiting for when my P is due after the weekend. This is what has happened before.
Periods do go a bit funny post-mc. Sometimes they start up again bang on time and all normal/regular for a couple of months yet go funny for a month or two!

I know this post is old now but I am going through this right now I've had a miscarriage over 16 days ago and now I'm loosing brown discharge no period as yet but my pregancy tests are still very strong postive

I had the brown spotting and from that went on to my period
Had my first period and we have been trying again it's only been a couple of weeks but I'm starting to feel really tired and my boobs are hurting so much I'm having to hold them as I'm walking around but I'm so anxious with the current situation with cornavirus
I do hope your okay and maybe this could be your body getting back to normal I dodnt get my first period till eight week after which felt a life time xx

Had a MC and had to have D&C. Waited 10 weeks for my period which I thought was finally here but had brown clumpy blood for 3 days. Almost nothing on a pad (sorry)

So confused!! Is this my period?

hey it only happened 4 weeks ago tomorrow been badly treated by the hospital as I have had a bad experience during the pandemic my personal choice I won't be TTC the moment

Hey guys. Is it possible to ovulate with HCG 30 after a miscarriage?. I tested with digital it showed smiley for one day and from next day its negative.

Hi so sorry for the miscarriage losses everyone is going through. I had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago, was at 21 weeks gestation. I found out only after that it's most likely an incompetent cervix which is heartbreaking. Feels like I could have done so much more if I knew sigh. Nothing in this world compares to that feeling of feeling your baby move one day and hearing no heartbeat the next. I hope I time helps me move on somehow. Anyway i had heavy bleeding for the first 2 weeks and light bleeding between week 2-3. When it stopped I had unprotected sex with my husband and then started back with brown and pinkish discharge for about 5 days after. It looked just like the implantation bleeding I had when I was pregnant but I'm not sure what's happening with my body. Is it even possible to get pregnant so fast after a miscarriage? Or is it just old blood evacuating my uterus? I dont want to freak out myself over it but I heard stories of people accidentally getting pregnant a few weeks after their miscarriage. Idk what to think. Please help

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry for all your losses 😔. I had a mmc 3 weeks ago. I had it medically managed then 4 days later I was still in agony and it was crippling so I went to A&E and they managed to get the lproduct out that was stuck, such a relief and the pain went immediately. This is my second mmc in 8 months....

Me and my partner decided to get close a few days ago and after I started spotting which was brown but has now turned into a very very light bleed. Not even enough for a small panty liner. It's just 'there' can't remember having this before. My hcg tests are very very faint. Just not sure what this could be, a period? Leftover products?

Djemz - sorry to hear about your loss, its heart breaking. Your bleeding sounds very similar to mine.

I found out I was pregnant early April it was unexpected. About a week later after being on the phone to clinics they estimated me around 7 weeks - due to COVID-19 was advised not to go anywhere. I started to miscarry which was scary as no one around me knew and kept it a secret apart from my partner who knew but do not live with. Bled for about a week with usual clotting after it was done I went on the mini pill as advised by my doctor which means I take it all the time and don’t usually get a period. Took a test a few days ago and was negative also at the same time was experiencing brown discharge this has now turned into bleeding not really heavy but just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if it is something of concern? Could this just be a period even though I’m on the pill or a backlog of bleeding ? Grateful for any responses hard to get doctors where I live and especially during pandemic x

Hi everyone I’m really sorry for your loss 😢❤️.. I really just need abit of advice, back in May I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. I had to have it surgically removed. I didn’t bleed much at all after maybe for one day but very light, I’ve had unprotected sex since , and my periods are normally every 28 days , I’m now on day 31 since still with no bleeds at all , on day 28 (when period should of been) I had a tiny show in my underwear of brown discharge, then nothing at all after that. Today day 31 when I wiped I had brown discharge that was this morning , and then now again nothing at all . It’s driving me insane 🤦🏼‍♀️! Does anyone know what this could be please . Xx

Hi @xuxa, i ended up spotting for a week again and it stopped. i then had about a month of normalcy and my period started again. However i have heard from many women that after birth your cycle is out of whack. This is 6 months since the miscarriage and i have had 3 months with my period being exact 21 days, 1 month with just spotting and barely any bleeding which i almost thought was implantation bleeding and a very long missed period for about 53 days. It just came yest. So everyone's body is different. Be expected for the depressingly unexpected irregular weird periods to come. Sigh.

I hope one of you can give me some feedback with this and maybe my story can help someone else out as well.

I had MMC on June 12, 2020. I bled for about 3 weeks then had spotting. It was about 2 weeks later I started bleeding again, it would slow down and then start again. That went on for a little while then came August 21st I thought I was getting my first period, as it was heavy and clotty like a lot of sites and doctors will warn you. I started loosing too much blood... I knew something just wasn't right. I was having insane cramps and decided to go to ER. I was soaking through pads at an unhealthy rate. The conclusion was, retained product of conception. I was measuring 7 weeks per HCG levels. I was told I would need to have a D&C. I was told to call and schedule an appt so, I went to the OB/GYN 2 days later and upon their ultrasound it was determined whatever was left that day at the ER, I had passed on my own. Though, the corpus luteum was still very much visible and I was scheduled to come in a week later to check HCG levels to make sure that they were decreasing. The following week at the appt, I had a negative pregnancy test. I was excited to look forward to a break from the bleeding for a while until my period and to begin to heal because I was so worried that my uterus would be damaged and I would have issues being able to conceive in the future. Here I am now, 3.5 weeks later, and I have been spotting for 4 days. First, it was hardly noticeable, but I became nervous because it closely resembled my implantation bleeding from before. It has been intermittent for 3 days and light brown and now today its a deeper brown like old blood at the end of your period but again only spotting barely enough to wear a liner. I am having very mild cramps as well. I am only really seeing blood when I wipe. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative.

My first experience with implantation bleeding was nothing like you read about. It lasted 6 days (not the 1-3 that you see and hear) and I didn't get a positive test until 4 days after it stopped. Though, last time I don't recall, and dark brown blood.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this??

Hi did you miscarry naturally? I found out that my baby has no heartbeat at 8 weeks that was last dec 13,2020.. we have waited for over 22 days for it to miscarry naturally as my cervix didn’t open after several medications. Now it’s a week after i miscarried. According to my OB my ultrasound says no gestational sac found and no masses found in uterus.. i am not quite sure if there are no retained products coz i am still spotting brownish but not heavy i can still feel the cramps..

Im having this same issue. Did ever get any answers?

hi, what was your outcome? i miscarried about 3 weeks ago and stopped bleeding 2 weeks ago and i just wiped when i went to the bathroom and it was brown blood. period or not? we’ve been ttc since i stopped bleeding.
