First period after miscarriage

Hi all

I had a mc at the end of May. I was 8+4 and it was a complete miscarriage and bleeding stopped after a week and pregnancy tests were negative a week later.

I've now started my first period since the mc, which I'm pleased about as I was dying to get back into a normal cycle. However my usual symptoms are not here. I usually get really tender breasts a week before, and spots on my chin area about 3 days before, but I've had none of this. I'm probably overreacting but I'm worried that this means I'm not 'back to normal'. I'm so desperate to fall pregnant again, and I'm 36 so I feel time is against me.

Does anyone have any similar stories to share?

I think the first period after a miscarriage varies.

I just had my first period following a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I previously had a miscarriage at seven weeks and the first period after that was much heavier than usual and very painful. As a result I was dreading this one, especially as it started on the day I went on holiday. Instead I had none of my usual symptoms and it was very light.

I think your body takes a while to fully regulate itself following a miscarriage and so there isn't really a "normal" as everyone is different.

I'm also 36 by the way, and I've been told not to try again until after I have some fibroids removed, so I know the feeling of time being against you. I'm trying not to focus on it and to tell myself it's only a feeling, not a fact.

When I had my first period after my miscarriage, it wasn’t like my usual cycle. It was very much the opposite, which surprised me. My second period was extremely painful and crippling!
By my third, everything was back to normal. Let your body sort itself out and when it’s ready to get into its natural cycle it will do.

Thanks so much for your replies. I think I just need to stop overthinking things and relax a bit. It clearly varies with everyone, and each cycle. I was so regular before I fell pregnant. Every 4th Wednesday around 11am, it was really that predictable lol. Hopefully after a few months I'll be back to that 😊

My first bleed after miscarriage was like this. I think my symptoms were different because I hadn't ovulated before it - it was more of a progesterone withdrawal bleed (I had slow dropping hCG). My PMT symptoms were back to almost normal the next cycle (slightly milder cramps but I put that down to my body thinking nothing of pushing a few blood clots out my cervix now it's pushed out a gestational sac).

My first period after my first mc in February was extremely heavy but no worse than usual pain. Just waiting for first period after second mc to start. We shall see.

I got my first miscarriage from my miscarriage today. It's lighter than normal I'd say but the same pain level. I seem to remember having a lighter period after my first miscarriage too.xx

Yes mine has been a lot lighter. Only lasted 3 days really. Had cramps one day, but no sore boobs at all. I never thought I'd be longing for sore boobs lol. Hopefully we will all be back to 'normal' soon.

I know right! It's also very ironic to be so desperate to see a negative pregnancy test and for my period to come. All very bizarre. Fingers crossed for a very different pregnancy experience next time for us.xx
