Hi all!
So 4 weeks ago I had a d&c and today I got a letter saying there's a possibility of a partial molar pregnancy & once a second opinion has been sought they will be in touch. Has anyone ever had experience of this? I've done a bit of looking online but would prefer some anecdotes to put my mind at rest. Anything is helpful at this stage. Thank you!

I'm afraid I don't know anything about this, but just wanted to say hang in there and commiserations. I had the same procedure (but no letter) earlier in the year. It's all so unsettling, but we have to keep going. I hope you get some positive stories of reassurance. Have a look at Tommy's as well.

I had a partial molar pregnancy about 5 years ago. I found out at the follow up for my ERPC, about 6 weeks after it took place.

Things might have changed, but what happens next is that you get referred to Charing Cross or Sheffield hospitals (whichever is nearest), assuming you are in the uk. You probably wouldn’t have to actually go there, but you’ll be monitored by them in the form of urine tests (pregnancy tests really) to check your hcg levels. In most cases they’ll be negative or fall to zero quickly. Occasionally they don’t and further monitoring and treatment is necessary.

I was unlucky as my hcg levels just plateaued for months and I had to have chemo to get them to fall to zero, but that’s the exception rather than the norm .

@chester345 just wanted to say I’m in the same boat - waiting for a second opinion as to whether I had a partial molar Do you mind me asking how far along you were? I was diagnosed with a MMC after no heartbeat at my 12 week scan, and had the D&C two days later (which was 2 weeks ago). It’s all a lot to take in!

@HelloViroids I was the same! Went for 12 week scan & no heart beat & baby was only measuring 7 weeks! D&C was 2 days later, that will be 6 weeks ago tomorrow. I got confirmation of a partial molar last week but haven't heard any more on what happens now, although I am getting frustrated as I'm still bleeding!

Yup, my baby was only measuring 6+5 at the scan I was told I might bleed for 4 weeks after D&C - really hope it doesn’t go on to 6! I have heard the same as said upthread, they will monitor urine tests for a while to make sure your hCG (pregnancy hormone) goes down to normal. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery us both... do you plan to TTC again? I really want to but know this all needs sorting first - so frustrating!

I got my pack through today from Ninewells Hosp in Dundee (I live in SW Scotland)! They sent me two tubes, one for blood & another for urine, to be sent away to them. It says I will be monitored every 2 weeks until there's a normal result, then if there's another normal result 4 weeks after then it doesn't need to be monitored! We aren't planning on TTC again for a couple of years now... we just got engaged so have thrown myself into wedding planning to take my mind off it. I hope you're coping okay, the first few weeks were the worst for me :(

Oh that’s good - fingers crossed for a normal result after 4 weeks then! Do you take your blood yourself?! Good luck! Wedding planning will be fab - I got married 3 years ago and had a brilliant day, whatever kind of wedding you want I’m sure it will be amazing
I am still pretty angry/sad/disbelieving - we need to try to buy a house so I could throw myself into that if we can’t TTC, but having felt like we were so close I just feel a real compulsion to have a baby now

The letter said to get the practice nurse or GP to draw blood so that's what I done!

I know why you mean about feeling the need for a baby, but I try and look at the positives. Although the mc was horrific I almost feel a sense of relief that it was a partial molar because it just happens by chance. I know that it wasn't caused by anything we did or didn't do or because there's something wrong with me or my partner. Hope this helps & hope you can start to feel a bit better soon. Much love 💕

I too have been diagnosed with partial molar. I wondered if anyone else has experienced the symptom of severe/chronic fatigue with this?

I became exhausted at 6 weeks pregnant, sleeping 16 hours a day and too tired/weak to do everyday chores - just in bed all the time. Doctors said the level of fatigue I was experiencing was 'very unusual'. When, at 12 weeks, a scan showed up the partial molar I thought this might explain why I'd been so ill but I've been told that severe fatigue is not a symptom of partial molar. Now, a month on from the ERPC I am still essentially house/bedbound with fatigue. I can only walk short distances - a slow ten minute walk.

If anyone has experienced this or has any idea what it might be I'd be really grateful to hear from you.
