How long for pregnancy test to be negative after miscarriage?

Interested to hear from you all, how long did it take you to get a negative pregnancy test after miscarriage? How far along were you when you miscarried?

I'm 25 days post medically managed miscarriage. I was 9+5 but embryo only grew to 6+0 - it was a silent miscarriage. I'm still testing positive on HPT, got another faint positive when I checked this morning. There is no chance I could be pregnant again. I had a scan to check for retained products 3 days ago and nothing was found.

Thanks in advance for your replies :)

I'm 36 days past my surgery and still getting very faint positives. Had my HCG levels checked and they are dropping but very slowly. I just want a negative test and my period! This limbo is hellish. Hope you're doing OK, op.

Oh, I was almost 9 weeks but development had stopped at 6.

Ithinkthatsenough · 25/05/2018 19:45

Hi i was over 12 weeks when i found out my baby had died. I had surgery and was told to test 3 weeks after, it was negative and i had my period a week later x

MagicalCreatures · 25/05/2018 20:39

They told me I shouldn’t be getting positives 3 weeks later and I was still getting then at 4 weeks after my miscarriage. Turns out I did have some pregnancy tissue left and they missed it when they originally scanned me. Maybe give them a call x

I have for more than five weeks after surgical management. I didn’t test after my last natural miscarriage but conceived three weeks after I first started bleeding, so it couldn’t have been very long.

BlueThroughandThrough · 27/05/2018 20:38

Natural miscarriage at 8 weeks (measuring 6 weeks). Negative 8 days later. Emotionally harrowing but physically I’ve got off lightly (fingers crossed it’s largely over now).

First miscarriage, natural m/c at 8 weeks, negative test 16 days after the bleeding started (two days after it stopped).

Recently had surgical management for another miscarriage at 9 weeks, and got a negative test a few days ago 12 days after the surgery.

Thanks for the responses! It's been 29 days now and still testing positive, it's very faint now though. Going to phone EPAU later.

@tinypaws how did you get on when you called the unit?

Rikalaily · 30/05/2018 13:15

It was about 4-5 weeks. At 3 weeks my postives were still super full on strong then they suddenly faded to nothing after another week or so. I was 10.5w at ERPC, development stopped at 7w.

TinyPaws · 30/05/2018 14:48

I went in to EPAU and they did a blood test, HCG was 27 and progesterone was 2.6, they said as my levels are so low they are not worried about retained products and discharged me.

But today I started to get cramps then passed a load of really watery brown stuff with little brown clots in. I stopped bleeding nearly 3 weeks ago so no idea what is happening?!

@tinypaws That's interesting about them not wanting to test for retained products due to the hcg levels. Last Thursday mine were at 26 but I haven't had them tested since. Today I took a test and could barely make out the line so guess the levels have fallen a bit more. Still no period though and that's 6 weeks tomorrow since my surgery. I'll give it another week maybe and if still nothing then I'll go to the GP.

BadBadBeans · 03/06/2018 12:12

I was 9 weeks but the pregnancy was only measuring six. I bled for 2.5 weeks, then took a test two weeks after that as recommended by hospital. It was negative. So, 4.5 weeks in total. x

TinyPaws · 04/06/2018 13:22

Just an update, I finally got a negative test today, 5 weeks exactly after my miscarriage.

@TinyPaws so glad to hear that. Hope this means you can start moving on with everything, and that you and your partner are both feeling positive about the future x

TinyPaws · 06/06/2018 10:26

Spoke too soon! It turned into a faint positive! Been back to EPAU today for another urine test (also faint positive) and a blood test (results pending).

Oh no @TinyPaws. That is so frustrating. Do update when you know more. I'm thinking of you.

My period is 4 days 'late' now but I guess anything goes in the first few cycles after miscarriage. Pregnancy tests coming up white as white can be. Ugh!

TinyPaws · 14/06/2018 21:30

Finally negative! 6 weeks 3 days post miscarriage.

So sorry you're going through this. It took 3 months for me to get a negative last year. I went back for 4 scans in the end and they never found any reason but kept saying it could take up to 6 months. It's awful and a horrible reminder you just don't need.
