After a miscarriage.

I miscarried naturally 2 weeks ago. I’d been spotting for a few days before but the heavy bleeding started a few days later. I was admitted to hospital due to tachycardia and low blood pressure which they said could be due to blood loss. Whilst there I had a tv scan which showed that everything left was at the top of my cervix. The dr then used a speculum and forceps to remove what he could (there was a huge clot blocking the top of my cervix which wasn’t allowing anything else to pass)
He said there was no need for surgery or MM as he was confident he’d got everything.

Bleeding after was like a period with small clots and some smaller tissue specks, but I did pass a huge hard blood clot on the 8th day, after which the bleeding stopped completely. I took it to the gp and he said it was just tissue but has referred me for a scan, the earliest they can fit me in is for 2 weeks time.

Today I had a negative pregnancy test.

Am I safe to assume now that the miscarriage has finished and there’s nothing retained? Should I cancel the scan?

Tbh I just want the whole thing to be over with so I can focus on the mental side of things. At the moment I feel like I’m putting grieving on hold until I know for sure the miscarriage had finished.

Thank you for reading.

Sorry, I meant to add I was 11+3 by lmp but I’m presuming the baby died a few weeks earlier as I only passed tissue

Hi OP, I'm so sorry you lost your baby. I've lost two myself. Your MC sounds very similar to mine, though I did not have any intervention. I bled for 8 days until I passed the sac, that hard kidney shaped looking clot. Baby had stopped growing at around 8 weeks. The bleeding stopped almost immediately after.

I would still have the scan. I know how hard that is, after an MC, but it's really important to make sure the MC is finished, incase of infection. I'm sure that will be the case but you are dealing with enough, without developing an infection too. Be kind to yourself.

Thank you, and I’m sorry it’s something you’ve also had to go through.

I took a 10 day course of metronidazole as a precaution but as you say, it would be ailly not to have the scan really. I know it’s going to be hard going - it almost broke me having to poas wishing it was negative for the first time ☹️

What you have described as being the sac sounds like the clot I passed that the GP just said was tissue. It was about the size of a 50p piece. I have a photo but I don’t think it’s appropriate to post for clarification. He took it and put it in the bin. When I had the scan at the hospital they said the sac was empty, I’m really hoping it was now.
