High platelet levels

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this-my platelet levels are always at the upper end of normal but in pregnancy are high and above normal range.

I have had 2 miscarriages since December 2017 and now I am wondering if this could be the cause. I am waiting for a blood test for APS/sticky blood in June so maybe this is all related.

Would be really grateful for your thoughts. Take care x

Hi I couldn't read and run, I can only give my experience as when I was pregnant I was looking and asking everywhere for info on this and found very little. I have high platelet levels (I think I remember them being high with 1st baby 2/3 years ago) when I had my first load of blood tests at 10 weeks with my second (he is now 7 weeks old) they were over the normal levels and then retaken a month later and had risen further. They then stayed pretty static for rest of my pregnancy and then I just had bloods retested 6 weeks post partum and they have gone down but still a little over normal levels. I was consultant led care and they were not worried at all the entire time they said it would not cause and issues or problems and wasn't even something they felt the need to monitor. I just had them healed PP because I also had to have my iron levels checked as really anaemic post birth and asked levels so I knew for next time what 'my normal' is.

as far as I can say it shouldn't cause you any issues I have had two pregnancies both absolutely fine and no miscarriages or chemicals etc so I can honestly say it's not affected me. I hope that helps a little/puts your mind at ease but always good to get things checked!

Thank you so much for your reply, and congratulations on your 2 babies. It’s reassuring to hear it didn’t cause you any problems.

I will have a chat about it with my doctor when I get to see her next, but hopefully nothing to worry about xx
