How long will this last?

Hi all

First of all I'm very sorry for everyone who finds themselves on these pages. It's such a horrible thing to happen but I've found the support and advice here so useful over the past few weeks and it's really helped me keep going through some dark times.

My situation is that I started spotting at 6 weeks pregnant two weeks ago at the start of the Easter break. It started off as light brown spotting & then progressed to a red bleeding a day later. I've only had two tiny clots & the bleed has never been heavier than a medium flow. Also I've not really had any pain other than some light cramping on day 3. I went to the EPU on day 5 and was told I had a complete miscarriage and I've since been back for blood tests to monitor my hcg levels (which are falling slowly - 169 last week).

My question is how long might the bleeding go on for given that I've already been told my miscarriage is complete? There seems to be no sign of stopping yet which seems odd when I know that it was classed as complete 1.5 weeks ago now.

I know everyone is different but it would be really helpful to hear of other peoples experiences in the same situation.

Thanks in advance x

Sorry you're going through this.

I haven't had the exact same experience, I had a MMC so I had medical management on 20th March. This made me bleed a bit for a day, followed by spotting but it didn't make me miscarry. I had the same treatment on 24th and the same thing happened again (I passed one small clot, but a scan showed the pregnancy was still in place). So on 27th I had the surgery. I had period type bleeding from this for about 4 days followed by spotting until 7th April. I imagine a lot of my bleeding was done during the surgery; I expect if I'd miscarried naturally it would have bled more or it would have gone on longer, but as it stands I've basically been bleeding since the 20th of March to varying degrees. It can take a while for the bleeding to stop. I was told some women spot the whole way through to their next period. I think anything is normal really. Just keep an eye on signs of infection and contact the EPU again if things don't feel right.

I'm also still doing positive pregnancy tests. HCG can take a while to leave your system after miscarriage. It's good they're keeping an eye on it. I think if it continues to go down it's a good sign that there's nothing left in there that could cause infection.

Thanks KnitKitty. Sorry to hear your story - that's a long time you've been going through this - hope you're doing ok.

I guess I'm just getting frustrated with everything now - I want to get back to normal so can start ttc again! I knew that it could take a while but thought that was while you were waiting to miscarry, not afterwards. I suppose I just need to be patient which isn't my strong point. Plus the constant trips back to the hospital are really not helping as I get so upset going back there. I'm trying to be positive though and have been out today to get lots of vitamins to try & start building myself up again.

Yeah, it really is frustrating, isn't it? I want to get back to TTC as soon as possible too. Going to try to wait for first AF, but as soon as I get a negative we will start having sex again and won't be using contraception.

I'm trying to see the positives... extra time to get in to good baby-making shape, but patience isn't for me either.
