Possible miscarriage - please help

Hi - I went for an early scan last Tuesday and was told I was 6 weeks 2 days. On Thursday I experienced severe cramps that had me doubled up and after that some light bleeding (including a small clot) which stopped when I got home and rested. I spoke to my GP who told me to rest for the next few days and call after the bank holiday. I've had no more bleeding since then but the pain was so severe that I couldn't move and I can't think it is normal. I had a miscarriage in November and that started with bleeding and then cramps the next day and I carried on bleeding for a week so I'm confused as to what is going on.
I'm going crazy waiting and not knowing especially as it's a long weekend before I can see the doctor. I'm still feeing nauseous in the evenings but I don't know if this is pregnancy hormones or because I'm a little anxious about what is going on.
If anyone has had this experience or any advice please let me know.

can you go back to the EPU and be checked over..if you are still bleeding, you could go to A&E...

severe pain, bleeding and passing a clot is not normal, and based on the fact you have had a miscarriage previously, i would have though the EPU would be happy to see you ASAP

Hi Lulumama - because the EPU had discharged me on Tuesday I have to go through the GP and he's told me to wait until Tuesday. I haven't had any more bleeding since Thursday which has puzzled me as I thought with a miscarriage I would have carried on bleeding like my last one. Thanks for answering.

do you have a number for the EP or gynae ward?

Yes I do but they are closed at weekends and bank holidays unfortunately so have to wait til Tuesday.

if you have more pain and bleeding, then go to A&E

Hi - I've been to the GP who says I'm still pregnant which is a bit of a surprise as I've been expecting the worst. I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for blood tests to check my hormone levels though. Thanks again for answering over the bank holiday!

Great news and hope to the others (mum34) who has been on this morning fearing the worst. Glad it turned out ok

My GP said it could have been a twin I lost.
She did a pregnancy test on me 5 days after the bleeding to check that I was still pregnant and it was positive but I didn't realise you could do that as I thought even if you miscarried the hormones would be there for a while but she said they would disappear quite quickly. Hopefully I'll make it to my 12 week scan now!

Sorry for your anxiety and I hope everything will be fine. I just read your post and I don't beleive your GP is right. I a sorry to concern you, but from own experience I know you can positive tests after a mc for weeks if not months, especially if you have not expelled all the material (called missed miscarriage).

Chances are that you are fine and still pregnant, but a urine pregnancy test is not a guarantee (unless she took your blood several times and checked the doubling times for your hormones), All the best.

Hi NKD, I realy sympathise, I had early bleeding with both dd and ds. With ds I did have a lot more bleeding and I was convinced I had miscarried, however when I had a scan at the EPU they told me that there were twins and I had lost one of them. Very similar symptoms to you althought I didn't have severe cramps.

thanks for your messages but I've been on bedrest since last Friday as I started bleeding again and have to go for another scan later this week. Glimmer - you could be right and I have thought it could be a missed miscarriage though I still have nausea.

I am very sorry to hear you had some more bleeding. I do not want to give you false hope, but many women bleed in early pregnancy and things might be fine. I bled for three weeks and everything was fine at 12 week scan. Sorry there is so much uncertainty at the moment for you. Many of us have been there and feel for you.

I'm going for a scan tomorrow so at least will have a better idea of what is going on - the uncertainty is the killer plus being housebound for so long!

I've had my scan and have a large sac of blood to the left of the baby but the baby is fine as it's in a separate sac. So I have to rest until my 12 week scan and see if it is dispersing. It's a huge relief to know what's going on and to know that I'm not miscarrying. In case anyone else has had this it's called a retrochorionic bleed. Thanks

NKD I am pleased that everything is ok for you. It must be a relief to know there is a reason for the bleeding and that the baby is fine.

I'm 7 weeks 4 days and just wondered how NKd1167739100921 is? I had a scan last week and they saw a sac of blood next to the sac with the baby in it. They said it should disperse and I might have some spotting. I haven't had any bleeding though. Just wondered if your pregnancy continued successfully?

It sounds like you will be OK and it's good news you haven't had any bleeding. I bled for 12 weeks and had an abnormal placenta from the bleed. I gave birth 3 weeks ago to a baby girl (at 36 weeks)and I'm amazed after the pregnancy I had! I hope everything goes well for you and you'll probably find that the sac will get smaller at each scan.
