Looking for some advice, I was on nexplanon for 7 years and had it taken out in October, been TTC since then, got a BFP on 11th Jan but started to have miscarriage today, my HCG has dropped over the past few days, bleeding has started so I'm expecting it to get worse, it's my first miscarriage, I should be 6 weeks today.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced miscarriage after nexplanon wondering if it's linked?

I honestly have no idea if they're linked, but wanted to say sorry for your loss Thanks I hope you're ok.

Thank you, it's starting to feel real now :(
Just trying to piece together what might have caused it x Sad

Im so sorry for what you are going through its utterly horrible !
I think we did . I had mine out in dec 2014 . Fell pregnant and lost baby on the 8th may 2015 at 8 weeks pregnant . We were heartbroken . However after losing baby i had a couple of "normal" bleeds and we fell pregnant again at the end of the august 2015 and have a little girl now and another one due in two weeks . I will never have that contraception again though and do blame having it in for our miscarriage .

It really isn't the nexplanon, that might have stopped you conceiving until it was out of your system, but couldn't do anything to a pregnancy once you conceived. The vast majority of miscarriages don't have a "cause", other than genetic error/lack of viability which is just bad luck (and age).

Yeah maybe you're right, there just seems to be so much stuff about it when you google it, with lot of people experiencing MC soon after coming off it.
Perhaps it's just one of those things, will never really know. :-(

I’m sorry for your loss & that you’re looking for answers.

My DS1 was an after Nexaplon baby & no issues there.

Miscarriages are just sadly very common, I had one MC & 2 chemicals following him & it is hard.

Rest & be kind yourself.

The thing is, though, that's it's probably true that lots of people have had a miscarriage after Nexplanon - because most people who get pregnant will have been on contraception prior to that, and many of them will have been using Nexplanon, and 20-50% of those women (depending on age) will go on to miscarry. I could prove to you that there is a strong correlation between not drinking and miscarriage. That isn't because not drinking causes miscarriage, it's because most people who know they're pregnant stop drinking. You see?

Hormonal contraception works by mimicking the hormonal effects of pregnancy and "fooling" your body into not ovulating by making it think you're already pregnant. If anything being on it prior to ttc can make you more fertile - women sometimes get put on the Pill during fertility treatment in the hopes of a fertility boost when they come off.

It's human nature to look for reasons but with miscarriage there just aren't any - it's luck and age. You have every chance of a successful next pregnancy.

Nexaplon works by weakening the womb lining, so I guess I was wondering if it's still somehow in my system If the lining would have been weak. But you're right I'll never know, just going to have to try again and hope for a better outcome next time
