What to do if having a miscarriage?

Hi I got a bfp on the 23rd December and worked out that I should be about 5 weeks now. Have started spotting very red and small clots and have cramps. Do I need to go to the Drs? I have no clue what to do? I am devastated and Just want to cry and hide away.

There's not a lot to be done at 5 weeks I'm afraid. You can speak to your GP or the local Early Pregnancy Unit to see if you can get bloods done 48 hours apart to check whether HCG is increasing, but it's too early to see anything on a scan. At this stage you can also wait and see whether the bleeding continues and turns into a period-like bleed and if so, whether pregnancy tests start to turn negative again. Unfortunately if you are miscarrying, nothing can be done to stop it.

You could call out of hours doctor or go to a&e like I did. They suspected ectopic pregnancy but it turned out to be a mmc. Wishing you all the best and hope it's nothing to worry about. x

I had quite a lot of bleeding at 5 weeks which stopped after a while but this was down to having sex and there being more blood in that area when you're pregnant (just so you may be able to rule out it being that). I also had small amounts of spotting, red blood, over the following few weeks which was implantation bleeding. As it was my first I had no idea what any of this was so rang the early pregnancy unit and all they advise is paracetamol for pain and to call back if it gets very bad or extremely painful. Try not to panic, bleeding doesn't always mean a miscarriage. A very good friend of mine bled around 6 weeks with both of her pregnancies and has had two healthy babies. You need to contact the Midwife in the morning and you should be offered a scan for reassurance/confirmation either way. Fingers crossed all is fine for you OP.

It's really quite heavy now and very painful. I will contact the Dr this morning. I know they can't do anything but I am due back at work tomorrow and I am not sure I can face it.
