Pain and discomfort 3 weeks after miscarriage

Hello. I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago - it happened naturally. I had an internal scan last Tuesday which confirmed that internally, everything looked as it should. I’ve been having stomach cramps for the last week and they are getting worse. I’ve been feeling nauseas again since last Thursday: the nausea had gone away after 6 days. My back is also really sore.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and could shed some light on it?

Hi im sorry, i know it says on the title pain and discomfort 3 weeeks post miscarriage. But i just couldnt find any answer to my situation.
I had d&c 5 days ago. First 3 days was fine. Ni further bleeding now. But 2 days ago i exp excruciating pain when passing urine, wind or stool, like 10/10. No burning sensation or frequency. Just very sore like my abdomen is being split in half. Anybody experience the same. And what was the conclusion. I have an appt tom. With docs midwife thought is bladder infection. Im a urology nurse and i dont feel like its a bladder infection. Im scared to be kis diagnosed given antibiotics for something different. Pls help.

I had the same thing happen to me afew years ago after a d&C. The pain was unbearable. I ended up having adhesions from the procedure and took almost 5months before I got my period. I had that pain the whole time until then. I hope it's not the same for you.

Hi, I also has this. Increased pain following MVA, I rung the EPU when it had been a week, they were brilliant. Had a scan and my HCG levels checked, showed retained tissue so I had another MVA that day and scanned immediately after to make sure they had everything. However I then went unwell with temp etc so they admitted me for IV antibiotics, they think the retained tissue had already started to be infected. Please listen to your body, if you're not sorted and you still don't feel right then go back again x

Hi all, I am sad for everyone but also relieved to find this thread and see I'm pretty normal.

I had an early MC between 5 and 6 weeks a couple of weeks ago, and despite an internal scan showing no issues and HCG down to pre-pregnant levels, I am still having some discomfort on my left side. It's intermittent and I seem to find it particularly noticeable when I've been quite active, but it's not a sharp pain, just sort of an ache.

It's a shame they don't say that you can expect a bit of ongoing discomfort as I was so worried waiting for my 2nd bloods to come back. I'll be relieved when my period finally comes...I'd normally be due in about a week but who knows whether that will happen this month.

I’m sorry that you are going threw this I had a miscarriage on Xmas it’s been 2 weeks and 3 days I have such bad cramps still and back pain then I’ll feel burning in my belly it hurts so bad I’m gonna make an appointment this week because after the loss 😔 to feel in pain after is even more of a nightmare going on these many weeks have you had the same feeling or anyone I’m so worried and I work 5 days strait a week as a nurse so I been working threw this it’s been very hard

Hello Ladies, I am only 3 days post medically managed miscarriage. I passed a lot of blood/clots on night one and two. Today is day 4 and (tmi) only blood loss I have now is when I wipe. My pads are more or less dry. But today, day 4, my stomach is unbelievably bloated and the pain is different to my uterus pain I had been getting. My tummy is so bloated and feels like it could explode at any point. Has anyone else had feelings like this?! Thank you all xxxx 💓

Hello. I know this thread is so old but really looking for some reassurance. I have the exact same symptoms as you. 2 weeks after my d&c I was getting an achey feeling and pinching numbness in my right hip ect so had a re scan and urine samples everything looked fine. I then was absolutely fine and pain went away completely. I then had my period 5 1/2 weeks later, again fine. Not too heavy just a normal period for me. Then about 3 days after I stopped bleeding I’m getting all these pain again! It’s exhausting 😞 I have no unusual discharge I’m fine in myself ect except this constant dull ache. Can I ask did the pain subside at all for you and how long it took? Just want to get better and I just feel it’s a constant reminder x

Hello, I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago and I’m currently having cramp-like symptoms on the left side of my stomach. I haven’t had any bleeding yet but i was wondering if it’s normal. I’ve also had accidentally had intercourse forgetting about waiting six weeks. Can any body relate to this or have some suggestions on what to do?

I had a MVA 4 weeks ago today due to an incomplete miscarriage and the medical management not working.

For the past week i have had pink blood when wiping and almost like ovulation discharge and also cramping pain.

I was told all was clear after MVA at the EPU and symptoms will go.... but not how long it may take! I started this horrific journey on the 1st Aug when we went for our 12 week scan with the words no one wants to hear 💔.
I feel like this is never ending and the Dr doesn't want to know and stated no infection.

Please help as I'm constantly googling and in pain and want this to end physically and mentally.

I'm so glad I found this thread.
I had a miscarriage 9 days ago, it passed naturally. 2 days after mc the pain was gone and a scan showed no retained tissue.
8 days after mc the bleeding was gone and I had a negative pregnancy test.
Then pain woke me in the night, worse than anything I experienced during the miscarriage itself. Could barely stand.
I haven't called nhs but will do if it persists. I hope it's just uterus contracting as others have said, I guess it would make sense that this would happen now that pregnancy hormones are gone?

@Hankthehonk Funny to see you were here back in March, as we’ve been on some of the same MC threads. Not sure if anyone else from this thread is still around, but can I ask you (and any others) how long the pain took to pass? And what you think it was? I’m 3 weeks post-D&C (8 weeks post medical management) now and have been having a heavy sore feeling in my womb for a few days, which is both painful and worrying. Would really welcome any insights!

@Oxalis00 sorry for your loss and that you are going through this, it was scary for me and sounds like you're experiencing something similar. It lasted about 48 hours for me. I still reckon it was probably to do with my uterus contracting.

I am pregnant again now (4w3d and really anxious!) and have had similar feelings but way less sore, kind of feels like my body is readjusting again.

Thanks @Hankthehonk it’s helpful to have some reassurance that it can be normal/common. It does feel to me like I had in early pregnancy - the adjusting thing. But it feels like it’s getting bigger rather than smaller! 😬 And there’s absolutely no way I could be pregnant now, short of immaculate conception. Will see how I go in the next few days. firstly I’m so sorry to hear that a lot of you seem to be experiencing pain after miscarriage. I have been driving myself insane googling my symptoms and I feel like some of you might be experiencing the same as me. I had a hysterscopic procedure (similar to d&c) 4 days ago and felt fine for about two days then I started getting a “feeling full” bloated feeling accompanied by sharp pains either side of my belly button and directly above. It hurts to walk and is making me really depressed & uncomfortable. After reading through this thread it makes me think it might be my uterus going back down its usual size but I’m not sure. I’m such an active person so no gym and being practically stationary has been so hard.

going back to consultant on in 2 weeks but that feels like forever away.

Hope you all get answers and go on to have successful pregnancies in the very near future xxx

@Lizzierixie I’m so sorry to hear you’re experiencing this too. I’d be interested to hear what your consultant says. My pain wasn’t period (just had one day of heavier bleeding) and I’m not sure on the uterus shrinking theory as I’m still very bloated and uncomfortable more than a week on - I’ve had a full term pregnancy and midwives confirmed uterus was shrunk back down just a few days after giving birth so I can’t believe it takes a month after an early miscarriage. I go on being baffled by my body!

Hi you lovely lot. Sorry you've all had such a rubbish time. I had an MC 1 week ago at 6 weeks that passed naturally. Leading up to the MC I had left side pain in my ovarian/groin area that varied between a dull ache and searing pain. Ultrasounds have supposedly confirmed not ectopic or detected any cysts. 1 week later and my left side ache is back (different to MC cramping). I have also had terrible lower back ache right though. Symptoms closely mirror ovarian cancer warnings so anxiety is through the roof and I'm going to request a smear tomorrow.
I'll update this chat as they may well just say it's entirely normal and therefore offer some reassurance.

Hi @Epsiv I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. The emotional pain of MC is hard enough without physical complications. I would say it’s def worth calling in and perhaps requesting another scan. I wonder whether ectopic could still be a risk - depending on dates there might not have been anything to see at that stage? It seems very unlikely MC would coincide with ovarian cancer, and the symptoms could be any number of things, so please try not to worry about that - though I completely understand and relate to how the whole experience makes you suspicious of your body and anxious about your health. I have heard smear tests aren’t advised until 3 months after MC so not sure that would help as you might end up with results that are unnecessarily worrying. But the best thing is to talk with a medic. Good luck and do keep us posted.

For what it’s worth to future readers, I ended up with antibiotics after the pain and bleeding continued (ie 4 weeks after D&C, which was itself 5 weeks after medical management for MMC). Been on clindamycin a few days now and pain seems to have resolved. I suspect endometritis (infection of uterine lining) following surgery.

Hello all I had a ercp surgical management removal and experiencing pains like everyone is saying I’m 5 weeks on and still getting very faint positives I had two surgical removals as first one wasn’t successful two big bleed ours to the point I fort I was dieing 🥺I’ve had 4x lots off antibiotics one as they said it was aseptical miscarriage and theee for urine/kidney infection, I have children and this was my first miscarriage but was just wondering did anyone start the pill after I started 2 weeks after surgical removal As the docs put me on the pill as I don’t want children anymore as it’s traumatised me docs say it’s fine but I’m worried as won’t have any periods and refuse to have intercourse as I’m so frightened so you could imagine the impact it’s causing me and my partner TIA X

I had 3 recurring miscarriages as well. Ectopic in 2019. Miscarriage at 15 weeks last July and another miscarriage around 9 weeks beginning of August this year. I’m sorry for your loss and only someone that’s been thru it truly understands. A mothers love never dies. Have you conceived since or still trying? Curious to know

Hey, so by way of an update: The pain died down but took a good month or so. I miscarried on June 25th and have since fallen pregnant again on my second cycle after the loss. I'm dealing with it by expecting another Miscarriage (some may feel this is overly pessimistic) but I feel that not getting excited will ease the blow if it happens. The medical stance in the UK that the expectation is to endure 3 before you get any testing/monitoring of a pregnancy is barbaric. Sending you so so much love and solidarity.

Hi everyone i had mva 2 weeks ago for retained tissue following failed medical on 23rd aug so its been 7 weeks for me in all 2 medical with continuous bleeding then had 1 surgical 😭 so since the mva 2 week ago iv had horrible dull & pulling down pains in belly hurts more to touch so once i touched prodded around my belly it feels like buring inside also sorry for tmi but like pubic bone feels brusied aswell now ready threw all these posts has givd me a tad bit of hope that its just my body getting back too normal but after 4x antibiotics for suspected infections & utis im literally giving up hope and begging to think this is just my life now is stopped bleeding finally 9 days after mva have no smelly discharge or anything like that my docs just stubbed on what it could be as he keeps prescribing antibiotics for infections that arnt even there, iv rang epau up asked for review so have an app in 2 days but I just feel like its going to be waste of time as im just never getting answers x
