8w2d, only saw yolk sack :(

Hi all,

I went for a private abdominal scan today, when I should have been around 8 weeks pregnant, but could only find a yolk sack. They kept it very light and said I could have my dates wrong and to come back in a week and we'll look again. However, I know this isn't very good news. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so what happened? I'm considering called the early pregnancy unit to try and get an internal scan so I can perhaps find out either way what's going on. I've had no bleeding, spotting or cramping. I'm feeling very upset as I feel like I know how this is going to go.

Hi, didn't want to read and run! I wouldn't want to say it will be okay but I had an early scan when I thought I was 6.5 weeks, I would have been more like 7+2 based on my dates now. We could only see a yolk sac from an external scan then. When we went back at 10 weeks there was a little baby. So it is possible that your dates are slightly out and that it will appear next week. I think it could go either way though unfortunately and waiting is the hardest thing! The EPU may be able to do an internal scan and give you an earlier answer though? They should be able to see it with an internal scan from 6 or so weeks. Fingers crossed for you

Thanks ladies. I've woken up feeling slightly more optimistic today. Still prepared for worst but with a glimmer of hope.

Sorry you're going through this. I went through the same back in February. I should have been 9 weeks. They said the same to me but sadly I knew my dates were right. I'd had no signs of anything being wrong before the scan. I miscarried the October before at 11 weeks. Hope you have a happier outcome than me! Sending support and here if you need to chat Xxx
