Waiting for natural miscarriage

We found out at 12 wk scan that embryo stopped developing at 6 weeks but I am nearly 14 weeks now and still waiting to miscarry naturally. I really don't want intervention but the waiting is overwhelming. Anyone got stories to share about how long it took to miscarry naturally and how bad it was with 6 week embryo?

Hi lentil,
Sorry to hear you're going through this, I recently had a miscarriage at 14 weeks with medical management so I understand what a depressing time this is....
I also had a miscarriage at 6 weeks a few years ago. It was only like a heavy period, I only need some anti inflammatories for the pain. I got pregnant the following cycle and he's now 4....
Wishing you the best....

Hi Lentil and very sorry this has happened to you. You sound strong. I've had four natural miscarriages in the 12th week, mostly with embryos that died at around 7 weeks or so. They always start in roughly the same way, with a small amount of blood and mucous, followed some hours later by cramps. The cramps get stronger, like bad period pains, and are followed by increasing amounts of blood and tissue, clots and placenta. The cramps ease after a few hours and for me each lasts for less than a minute. I find painkillers and hot water bottles help a lot, as does deep breathing. Get yourself as comfortable as you can, with blankets, hot drinks, towels and pads. This is your miscarriage, you're in control. You can use a sieve (smaller the better) to catch your clots when you go to the loo in case you want to see your baby. Seeing the sac with a tiny embryo inside took me by surprise the first time but I found it gave me a real sense of peace and closure. Since then I've always looked out for the sac, although it's not always possible.
After you pass the sac the pain will usually ease. I usually bleed afterwards for another week or two, like a period.
Wishing you very good luck X
