Baby aspirin? Help!

I thought I would post here, but if I should move it to pregnancy please just shout!

Just got BFP. This will be my fourth pregnancy in as many months Sad

I've got an appt with my local RMC in a couple of weeks, and the secretary is trying to see if there's an earlier slot I could have, but I'm basically wondering if I should start taking baby aspirin or not as I've heard it can be beneficial with little risk. Has anyone heard otherwise?

I just can't bear the idea of losing this one over something so simple if that turns out to be the problem....

I'm no expert, so hopefully some one else will know more.
I did a little bit of research in to baby aspirin after my MC and I couldn't find risks with taking it.

My friend took baby aspirin even though it wasn't prescribed or advised in any way and she had a healthy baby. She doesn't know if the aspirin helped, but she has a very healthy 2 year old, so it didn't do her any harm. x

I took it for dd2 - I told midwife and consultant what I had decided to do to be on the safe side

MegsMog · 19/07/2017 14:02

Thanks both for replying. My GP are a bit useless sadly so I think I'll self-medicate a low dose.

It's a rubbish position to be in!

Bless you. Good luck with everything, keep us updated x

Best friend suffered multiple miscarriages, she took aspirin as soon as she found she was pregnant and now has had 2 full term pregnancies and has 2 beautiful healthy children.
I did a lot of researching while I was ttc too. Started aspirin and am 28 weeks and still take it daily.
75mg aspirin is low risk for problems or complication etc but can be very beneficial.

I'm sorry you have suffered so much loss. What a stressful time pregnancy can be.

Tbh I was on baby dose aspirin and I don't think there are any side effects. Unfortunately it didn't help me but that was because dd2s growth resitriction was because of a trisomy.

Tbh I don't think you've got anything to loose trying it. The flip side being, if you don't try and loose another pregnancy will you always wonder?

Sorry for your losses MegsMog Flowers I was in a similar situation last year so I know how rubbish it is.
Have you asked your gp for any initial tests before your appointment? Mine tested for clotting issues (which the aspirin would help with) and thyroid function (which is easily treatable - this turned out to be my cause). Since you are pregnant I think you could push for these. Wishing you all the best x

I took baby aspirin after two miscarriages and had a successful pregnancy. I've read a lot and found no evidence baby aspirin causes any negative side effects. Higher doses of aspirin can cause issues though.

I took the 75mg baby aspirin from boots and took it everyday throughout.

Good luck!

MegsMog · 19/07/2017 19:11

Thanks so much all for replying - I'll definitely go for it.

crow my GP has tested for thyroid & diabetes (both negative) but not clotting, I did ask for further tests but they fobbed me off. I will ask again.

I would be a little surprised if I have clotting issues as I have a two year old DD who was conceived easily and had uneventful pregnancy, but I guess it could have developed?

For what it's worth when I saw the recurrent miscarriage consultant she said that if I got pregnant before getting any results back I should take a small dose (75mg) of aspirin from bfp, just in case it did any good. Good luck - I know what a hard place it is to be pregnant again after multiple losses.

MegsMog · 19/07/2017 19:14

lisa that's really good to know, thank you.

It's so nice to have people understand what this feels like (though I wouldn't wish it on anyone)

I torture myself every day about the fact that I started taking aspirin with my third one and stopped because I freaked myself out about self-medicating. I miscarried again, but it lasted two weeks longer than I ever have before. I wonder all the time whether I could have saved that pregnancy. So I'd say take it!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 19/07/2017 19:17

And I also went full on nuts with anxiety in that pregnancy, so again, you really do have my sympathy! Really hope everything works out for you.

pilotswife · 19/07/2017 19:20

Another vote for starting Aspirin 75mg daily as soon as you can. After 4 miscarriages I was advised to take it and had two normal pregnancies in the next 14 months. Wishing you all the best for your next pregnancy.

tigerdog · 19/07/2017 19:24

Just to add my support. I've had three miscarriages and I would definitely say to take it. I was the diagnosed with a blood clotting issue and I wish I'd taken it sooner. Wishing you lots of luck.

MegsMog · 19/07/2017 19:29

Thanks again all, this is really useful in reassuring me that I'm doing the right thing in self-medicating!

Wishing you lots of luck OP Flowers

MegsMog · 20/07/2017 10:15

Well I went to GP and they've done bloods for progesterone and basic clotting checks. My RMC appointment has been moved forward to next week so hopefully I'll have some results to take with me!

Thanks again for the support.

Ah that's positive news MegsMog!
Make a list of all the questions you want to ask at the RMC in case you forget on the day. Wishing you all the best x
