MVA yesterday - should bleeding top this soon?

I had a surgical procedure with local anaesthetic yesterday, after my MMC was discovered at 12 weeks. There was an empty sac, so the pregnancy hadn't progressed. I've had no pain afterwards and today the bleeding has pretty much stopped. I don't know whether to be relieved that physically I feel fine, or worried that I might have retained tissue since the bleeding stopped so soon. They said I could bleed for up to 2 weeks. Will they think I'm silly if I phone up and ask if the bleeding has stopped too soon??

Title should say stop, rather than top- sorry

What you're describing is exactly what happened to me, except I was relieved rather than worried, and they'd said it was a possibility that I wouldn't have any more bleeding.

What actually happened was having stopped the next day (Thursday) I started bleeding again heavily on the Saturday and still haven't quite stopped. It'll be two weeks tomorrow, and it's down to spotting now so I'm assuming I'll be bang on two weeks when it stops.

I rang the hospital after it started again and they said it was normal. They basically said, they don't scrape you (sorry if TMI) so initially there's some small bleeding from the procedure, then some of the lining that was left falls away. Depends how far along you were how much that is.

So: don't freak out if you start again, and don't freak out if you don't. And best of luck with your recovery- I felt v well immediately after the procedure but as time went on felt much more tired, more mood swings from hormones, etc. Just be kind to yourself if it's more up and down than you expected.

Like the previous poster I've had the same experience after both my MVAs, very little bleeding immediately afterwards, but it started again a couple of days later and continued for about a week.

Yes very normal, similar thing with my MVA didn't bleed much until a few days later. It was never very heavy though. Don't worry just relax as best you can for a quick recovery.

Sorry for your loss. I also had a blighted ovum and was bleeding for a couple of days. There can be great variations from one woman to another, so I would not be concerned. I would recommend doing a follow-up ultrasound as in my case, a minimal amount of retained tissue was seen.

Bubble77bee · 07/06/2017 15:00

I wish they did a follow up ultrasound as a routine, maybe a week later. I can't fault the care I've been given so far, everyone was amazing, but the follow up seems to only be there if you contact them with a concern.

I had a scan a week later but it was too early the lining was still thick. I agree it should be routine, if I hadn't gone for one a couple of weeks later they wouldn't have seen the polyp/fibroid whatever it is (they don't know) I have now.

PossibiliTea · 08/06/2017 23:41

Hope you are feeling ok, sorry you are going through this Flowers

Sorry for your loss, i hope u recover quickly. I would recommend a follow up scan if u can in a couple of weeks just to be sure.

I had an MVA done 3 weeks ago, stopped bleeding pretty much straight away. The hospital told me to do a test 2 weeks after the bleeding had stopped and it was still positive.
Went in for a scan friday to find most of it was still there, they think it was too high up to be reached by the procedure so im booked in for a D & C on tues.
Started bleeding last night, lots of pain and clots but the bleeding has almost stopped again now. Back in for another scan monday.

Op I had an MVA in April. I bled a lot that evening and then the next day, and then it was just spotting for the rest of the week. I had a normal period 5 weeks later. Sorry for your loss and hope recovery is smooth.
