Any idea what's going on

I have previously had 2 mc and suspect I may be having a 3rd.

I should be around 7 weeks and had a scan 8 days ago that showed a gestational sac and yolk. The staff at EPU seemed to think this was fine and I was probably at the end of the 5th week rather than 6 weeks that I thought I was. On my notes it said subchorionic haematoma seen although this was not mentioned by the sonograper. The nurse said this would explain bleeding I'd had 2 weeks earlier.

Since Sunday (3 days after scan) I have had small amounts of red spotting - but only after bowel movements (TMI Sorry).

On the other hand I've started to feel increasingly sick in the mornings this past week.

Then today I have had a gush of pink watery fluid. I'm driving myself crazy googling. Half of what I read say that with a SCH, spotting and pink fluid can be normal. Then the other half says pink watery fluid is an almost certain sign of imminent miscarriage. EPU have said they'll see me again on Thursday - which is such a long time to wait. If I'm having a miscarriage I really want it to be over and done with. I'm struggling to cope with the uncertainty after the previous 2 miscarriages.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on/had similar experiences?

Just wanted to update - today I've been bleeding fairly heavily and have started passing clots - about the size of grapes. I can't believe this is happening again. It's 27 days since I got my bfp and my first miscarriage was 28 days after that bfp. I didn't see a fetal pole or heartbeat in either pregnancy. Does anyone have any ideas what can cause multiple miscarriages at this stage in development?

I have not had multiple mcs so I cannot help on that score.

I did however have a subchorionic haematoma/clot and had loads of spotting and exceptionally heavy bleeding at around 8 weeks. I went on to have a relatively normal pregnancy and a healthy baby. I also bled in my second and third pregnancies. So don't give up all hope.

If you do have a mc, I would have thought you could ask about blood thinning/aspirin to prevent clots. Sadly clots can cause an mc - I was told to prepare myself for the worst. I think you will also be referred for consultant care after 3 mcs - this was the case when I was pg but things may have changed I guess.

I don't know I'm afraid, but just wanted to say I'm sorry you've been through what you have. It's very hard indeed. I can only suggest you see your Dr as soon as you can to ask for referral to a specialist.

Hi tiggykate I'm so sorry to see your post. I really hope it's not a miscarriage, although given your previous experience of this, it sounds as if you're now fairly sure it is.

If that's the case, and you are in the U.K., a third miscarriage should mean a referral to a consultant gynaecologist specialising in recurrent miscarriage. They are also likely to offer you a number of blood tests etc to see if there is an underlying cause. It could be a number of things. For example, that your babies have sadly had some sort of genetic problem that stops them growing and developing. Or an immune response from your body. Or low progesterone levels. Sometimes though, no cause is found and it feels so cruel that women have to go through this three times before it is investigated.

I imagine it's the last thing on your mind at the moment, but if you choose to conceive another baby in the future you should be offered early ultrasounds and possibly additional medication such as progesterone and a super high dose of folic acid to help sustain your pregnancy.

Thanks I have an appointment at the EPU on Thursday and they've already said if this turned into a mc I'd get a referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic.

I have a 2 year old ds and had a very easy conception and pregnancy with him. I'm 31 so I don't think age is the problem.

I'm driving myself mad thinking what could have caused this. The only thing I can think is my weight. My BMI was overweight with my son but is now around 32. I've read that obese women have a 79% increased chance of miscarriage. I've decided that I'm going to go on a strict diet from today to at least get my BMI below 30 before I ttc again.

Hi tiggy, so sorry for your losses. Don't drive yourself too crazy thinking it's about the weight. Many overweight have healthy pregnancies. However, I had a mc and my BMI is 32. I'm aiming to get my BMI to below 30 before trying again too. Good luck with everything! Xxx
