Totally normal to have this sort of thing - if it gets heavier or you get cramps, that might mean you are about to miscarry, but a bit of old blood is normal.

Do ring your doctor though and they can send you for a scan to check the baby.

hi jessie

I had this with my pregnancy (my baby is now 5!). I went to drs who sent me for a scan immediately but it turned out to be just a hormone imbalance (breakthrough bleeding around the time I would have had a period if I'd not been pregnant).

I had to have an anti-d injection cos I'm rhesus negative just in case and of my blood had mixed with the baby's.

Don't know if it's the same for you but I'd get yourself of to the docs just to put your mind at rest.

Oh poor you, you must be really worried. But it's impossible to tell without a scan - plenty of people on here have had much larger bleeds in their pregnancy without it being a miscarriage, and the fact that you're also still feeling lousy is a good sign too.

My advice (as given to me by NHS Direct when I had a bleed) was to go to your doctor to get a referral for a scan asap. And it could well be good news.

I bled pretty continuously through my pregnancy with ds - from week 5-36 (when he was born) - brown, red and with & without cramps!! I also bled a couple of times with dd/

If you can, get to a local early Pregnancy Unit - they will do you a scan and reassure you - always best to get it checked out, but apparently about 1/3 of women have some bleeding in pregnancy! NHS Direct will be able to tell you where your nearest unit is, and they can refer you so you don't need to go to Dr first. Most run as drop in sessions in the am, so get there early!

Good luck

xx

Yes, phone your GP and get a scan sorted. I had a bright red bleed with cramps in this pregnancy and me and the baby are just fine.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I am 8 weeks and have had two minor bleeds; one on thurs just gone and one today- literally spotting. The first time it happened I went to A&E all of a dither and they scanned me and found a distinct heartbeat and all the signs were good. This time I rang the midwife and she said to rest up and if it got any worse I should go back to A&E. It pretty much stopped with only a little brown-ish stuff, which I presume was residual.

The problem is I am Rhesus Neg and I've read that you should have anti-D if you bleed. My midwife seemed to think that I had not bled enough for this to be necessary... I guess she knows her stuff, but i am still a little worried- has anyone else had an experience like mine, and if so how did your healthcare professionals handle it?

Sorry for extremely lengthy post!

Hi, I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but you might want to ask it in a new thread. This one's pretty old. The pregnancy I refer to earlier in this thread, for example, is just about to turn 3!

Oops- didn't look at the date... cheers.
