Natural killer cells & recurrent miscarriage

Hi, I'm going to Warwick university on Friday for tests to determine whether I have high levels of uterine natural killer cells which could potential be responsible for my recurrent miscarriage problems. Has anyone had these tests done, or gone through the treatment? I'm feeling quite nervous, not necessarily about the procedure itself but what it could mean for our future, thank you

Hi whoopty I went last year after two late first trimester mc whilst ttc dc2. I saw Professor Brosens and he was lovely. The procedure is pretty uncomfortable but I found it bareable. Think gas and air is available, but I would recommend taking some painkillers beforehand. My biopsy came back showing normal levels of uNK cells so they prescribed progesterone from 7dpo and clexane after a bfp and a location scan (I believe they no longer offer the clexane because of research findings). I am really happy that I went there and our 6m dd is snoring next to me. I know quite a few other ladies via mn who have also visited, many being diagnosed with high uNK cells and many have babies now. I hope your visit is a positive one and they can help you xx

Thankyou so much, I'm getting really nervous now! Mostly about getting there (I'm in the northwest), getting back, what if my card doesn't work/what will happen next, all silly things really. I think the writing is on the wall, and I'll prob never have another baby but I need to try this so I can move on if I have to knowing I've done all I can. I'm seeing prof Brosens too, will there be a nurse or someone in the room too? (I'm going on my own) I was worried there'd be no treatment available if I don't have high NK cells, so I'm glad to hear from ur experience that there might be. So glad I've got ur lovely baby xx

Yes. I went in 2013 after 4MC and had my lovely daughter first attempt on their high NK cells protocol ( progesterone, cleaned, pred) she just turned 2. I saw Prof Quenby but know lots of MNers who saw Prof Brosens and were equally impressed. It's easy to find, there is lots of parking, clinic ran pretty much on time and it was all fine. Take some painkillers beforehand and a pad as you might spot a bit after. I didn't have G&A and didn't find the biopsy too bad. I'm pretty sure there was a nurse/chaperone in the room as well. We felt the same, that unless they could offer us some hope then we'd had all we could take. I had very high uNK cells of 16% so they gave me a 60% chance of success on the protocol, but for once we were lucky. Good luck!

Sorry whoopty how did it go on Friday? We're away and I have patchy Internet access. The treatment is available on the NHS once you've paid for the initial biopsy. I assume you were offered progesterone even without high uNK cells from 7dpo? I do hope you got through it all OK. I travelled up from Hampshire to Coventry and have no regrets about going xx
